I just picked up an 84 3/4 Suburban with a 6.2. I noticed it has an extra leaf on the driver front spring pack. Anybody else notice a truck like this before? I assume it is to correct the slightly lower drivers side these trucks have.

How many leaves on each side? Maybe one broke on the passenger side and it was removed or one was added on the driver's side.

The factory never did that.

i noticed my old Blazer kind of leaned a bit to the left also. I was thinking of adding a leaf to the front left pack.

I've seen it done on a lifted truck. I just haven't run into it on a stock height truck yet.
It is also the first 3/4 4x4 I have seen with a factory 700r4.

Factory 700R4's in 3/4tons I see all the time here. But the leaf packs I see 3 leaf packs in 3/4tons and 2 leaf packs in 1/2tons.

It must be the rare 5/8 ton truck. Maybe this is the source for those 12-bolt front axles.

But seriously - somebody was probably just fixing something that broke. I've seen broken leafs replaced with random junkyard leafs with pretty decent results. It can be time consuming since it's trial and error. As long as it sits straight now, this isn't a big deal. You could always swap the springs for a matched set if you don't think it rides right.

Nope, none of the above.
It just used to have a fat driver!!!!!

Most likely, someone busted the spring at one time,it had 2 leaf springs stock, and they found a 3 leaf one at a boneyard and put it in..either could be factory,I have seen 1/2 tons with factory 3 leaf front springs, and my '82 K2500 has 2 leaf ones stock!(has 5 leaf rears too,its evidently not an 8600 GVW 3/4 ton--I can no longer read the specs on the door tag)..my truck rides very nicely, yet still handles a 7.5' plow and a good load in the bed without bottoming out or sagging its butt,surprisingly..
