I am trying to remove the steering arm studs so I can use them on my new axle. What is the best way to remove them?

I tried double nutting but the nuts just come loose off the stud.

When I removed mine I used vice grips. It was a rather tedious process in the beginning because they required a very large amount of pressure to turn the stud and not have the teeth lose grip. A little bit of heat helped also, and some PB left on from the previous night. Obviously be sure to only grip the smooth part of the stud and not the threads with this method.

Stud extractor!....double nuts worked for me though,I had to run the first nut down abs bottom it out on the threads ,then tighten the second nut against it using two wrenches..

Go to your local hardware store and buy some bees wax. Heat the knuckle area around the studs and apply the bees wax and then let it cool and then you should be able to double nut and remove easily.

i use a small pipe wrench for studs and rounded nuts and bolts works great the harder you pull the tighter it grabs. and when i mean small they make one that's only 4 or 5 in long one of the handiest tools i have.

Ditto, bought the tool and love it. You said you are re-using them right? In that case, I wouldn't bung them up with other tools. Buy or borrow the stud remover. I bought this one from Sears and it was worth the money:
