I'm going to add an external transmission filter the type that use the spin on oil filters and I was wondering how much stuff can the trans pump through before it looses pressure. Presently, I'm using the stock oil cooler, an external cooler, and now I want to add the filter. Any ideas?

Thanks

Dan..

Doesn't effect pressure..... If I had room, I'd run the long filter...

Do these external filters do a better job of filtering or are they just added insurance? Guess my question is why use one?

added insurance, easier to change so you can keep up on maintenence easier. A buddy of mine runs on on his Ranger, changes it once a year. Its right up front with his trans coolar.

think about it... It definitely adds to the filtering capabilty.. You can run different Micron rated filters too...

In my case, someone gave it to me.... Definitely cheap insurance and by that I mean it's not a costly mod even when not a freebie.. Certainly makes maintenence on your tranny simple and easy to stay on top of..

Opfor2.....

There is no recovery bottle in the truck at the moment... I do have a trick one that goes right next to the radiator, but I'm waiting to put it in till I reconfigure that side with my sealed electronics box I'm building...

Actually the filter will be relocated at that point up to the front because the sealed box is going in that spot behind the battery.. Still working out the details...

not only does it help filter junk... it adds fluid capacity. Always a good thing.

Im actually looking for an external filter and ive heard some come with a temp gauge....im thinking of getting one to install when i put in my transmission..

I have an external filter like the one talked about. Picked it up at Napa for about $20. Then went to the hardware store and picked up A "T" and other fittings to tee in the trans cooler temp guage probe on top of the filter. Works great, no problems yet.

Ryoken, do you know who made your trans oil filter adapter? I looked at Summit and a few other auto parts places and all the trans filter adapters have the hose fittings on the top not the side like yours. I would like to get one with side hose mounts not top.

thanks

Dan..

hmmm, I've had it forever... no part #'s on it, I always just assumed it was a Summit.. But I see what you mean, I don't see any listed like mine...

I'll take a peek around tonight when I get home.. I know they make side mount ones for marine use...

Hey ryoken can you repost the pic...I can see the one up there. And how do these hook in line? Do they screw in?

they all have NPT ports in them.. you can put any fitting in there, npt to barb, for running rubber hose to it (simplest, cheapest). or in my case, NPT to AN, for my steelbraided...

I have a similar one, made by Permacool I got from Jegs. It has a temp guage to.

Its made specifically for trans? Do you have a # or web page?
And I could use the gauge too , the one I have is a cheap piece of crap.
