Today we got a new digital camera. I got these pics of my 454 for you to drool all over your keyboard.

The intake is a polished aluminum one from Greenwood Chevy. Same stuff as Edelbrock, only prettier and cheaper. The engine mounts are new Energy suspension inserts. (Old shells painted).

Very nice looking, but I think its missing something. Oh, no valve covers or carb. So whats in it? compression ratio? cam? heads? etc. If you ever feel like donateing it give me a ring.

When all else fails... Check the blinker fluid.

Shouldn't that thing be Chevy Orange instead of Furd blue? JK

Riz & Texan. That's the exact color my 350 came. So I had the color custom made at a local Dupont shop. I took an old valve cover from it and they matched it. Maybe it was too expensive, but they swore it will last.

So it's SBC blue, not Furd blue!!!

Sparky:

You're right. I've got an Edelbrock Q-jet, a K&N filter and a pair of Edelbrock signature valve covers waiting to be installed.

I also have this set of Thorley tri-y headers. I still have to sandblast them, weld a small crack and coat them.

<a target="_blank" href=http://blazer79.freeyellow.com/images/thorleys.jpg>http://blazer79.freeyellow.com/images/thorleys.jpg</a>

These are 2wd headers, but I test fitted them and they are a perfect fit!! I am so happy

That is very nice.

I want one..........................I want one..........................I want one..........................

One thing I did notice is the Mayster Cylinder needs some TLC now that the pretty BIG block is in there.

The rust just dosen't go with the rest of the set up.

That looks like Pontiac Blue. Very fitting for a Big Block
smile.gif

I know that Legit uses Poncho Blue on their rebuilds but as far as I know stock engines came in Chevy orange or Black depending on the year.
Another color I like is Olds Gold that came on the Rocket motors.

Juan, that thing is lookin' good! Parts are starting to arrive for my 454. The Edlebrock TBI intake and the SFI flexplate arrived from Summit yesterday. The cam and lifters aren't scheduled to ship until the 17th though.

Keep those pics coming! We're waiting for the burnout video like the one Muddin4fun posted.

It's a great day to be alive...

Somebody stole your roller rockers and replaced them with super high perfomance stock rocker arms. It looks like you already have some kind of guide plate on your pushrods, I would throw a set of roller rockers on that motor before you close it up.

Don't worry CaliforniaK5, I knew someone would point that out, but I have a new master cylinder sitting here with me. Once I finish with the 454, I'll be installing rear disk brakes so that's why it will be replaced as well. I also have new Eldorado calipers & TSM kit, and all new Raybestos pads. I'ill be using DOT5 brake fluid too.

Sure I'll get you some more pics as progress continues. Unfortunately I only have about 4-5 hours a week to work in it, so it's sloooowww. Now hurry with some pictures of yours.

I can't promise you a burnout video like Muddin's, because mine is full-time. The good thing is that in a 1/4 mile race, I'll be already on the other side while she's trying to take off burning her tires.

The GM corporate blue was used in many GM's with the smallblock, but it may have been an 'export' thing. My Dad bought a Caprice wagon in 79 brand new and the 305 was GM blue just like Juan's 454 in the pic. I had several late 70's early 80's GM cars and trucks and can't recall one that had an orange small block, they were all GM blue. Most of the older stuff here was painted orange though (late 60's early 70's)
Pontiacs that I recall were a slightly more green/blue
I also remember the Gold Olds's rocket motors...

I don't know the specs on the engine. The previous owner bought a tow-truck in the US and drove it down to Guatemala. He used it for a while here and was amazed by the power it had, but he had to swap in a diesel because of the high mileage of the 454 and since we get a government 20% off on diesel.

The engine was already rebuilt in the US when he got the tow truck, so I don't know cr, cam type or anything else. But it seems like whoever did this knew what he was doing. It had the Thorley headers, pushrod guideplates, but had replaced the stock 4bbl intake with a 2bbl one, maybe for fuel economy. The new 4bbl intake and Edelbrock Q-jet should improve it a bit.

Do I need to replace anything else in the valvetrain to use roller rockers?
