Whats the deal with the Detroit EZ lockers? I've heard they break easily, and i've heard some good stories about them. I dont do any real serious 4 wheelin', but i dont know if i should spend the money and just buy a better one. What do you guys think?
 
Everyone I've talked to on the 4x club I'm in says dont waste your money on the cheat sh!t... get the detroit... it's good for everything from 32's to 44's...
Do it once... do it rght... that's why we drive chevy's right!!!

I havent done a lot of wheelin, but ive heard the ez locker is weak for trucks with tires bigger than 31s. I have a lock rite with 33's and i put it through hell this weekend and didnt have a problem. I floored it and dropped the clutch to get over a steep hill and when it caught on the rock I thought I would break it for sure, but it held up. It was only $300 and took me 45 mins to put in. Please correct any misinformation I may have given about the ez locker.
 
I'm pretty sure the regular Detroit locker is tougher, but I seem to remember some posts about how much of a pain it is to have it in the front diff. I think the main problem was how turning it sucked, and that some people would have to unlock one of their hubs to manuever around trails, which would suck in nasty terrain. If you're just wanting it for the rear, I think that's what a lot of the guys use. If anyone who knows the specifics, or owns some and would like to shed some light on this, please do. Thanks.

NNNNNNOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, do not buy an EZ. If you want a drop in spend the extra cash and get the Lock-Rite. I ended driving home from Tellico on my front axle after I broke that POS. It did hold up with 31s but the second trip with 35s it let go. Keith was behind me with a Lock Rite in his and all was well.

I have a buddy with a Lock Rite in the back of his bone stock CJ7. 258 6-banger with a 5-speed and 31 inch tires. It broke last spring at Moab. At least it didn't break in "can't move" mode. It just doesn't unlock one side any more when cornering and makes some pretty horrible noises.

have you looked in to the new powertrax no-slip?
anyone tried one of these for a while? i think powertrax are the same people who made the lock-rite.

I ran an ezlocker with a Dana 44 and 38x11 boggers.
We did a season with it in the front. We have absolutely no problems. It worked fine.
I would definately not recommend this for anything larger than 35's . The 38's were very skinny and maybe that's why we got away with it.
Ez Locker is made by Detroit and it costs about 1/3 the price of the real detroit locker. It's somewhat like a posi.It is simple to install versus a true locker. Depending on the wheeling you do it might work for you.
