I'm planning on buying steel tomorrow to start my pick up slider build this week end. These are going to be bolt on to my half ton frame. I plan on using 5" by about 5" 3/16 plate bolted to the frame. it will be 3 by 3 box tube welded to this plate. I'm a little concerned about the frame cracking at the bolt holes. This is my prefered way to do it. I could weld them on to the frame but I want them to be removable. Comments? Does it seem like a bad design?

Look here. I made a cross member for mine to avoid frame problems. They also sit flush with the body.

If you decide to make a crossmember like Chad's, extend it further out (i.e. make the crossmember wider than his to better help counteract the leverage that the rockers will have).

Just make sure that the plate you use is as tall as the frame, and atleast as wide as it is tall. Wider wouldn't hurt. On the inside of the frame, try doing something like this-

Pic shamelessly stolen from the diy4x website. :D

Hey thanks. Good idea's. Mine will be very similar to yours, just not as nice. I plan on 3/16" everything as well. Should start this Saturday and will keep my armor build thread updated when I get some of it done.

Still open to comments.

cut out the rockers and weld them in place

I've thought about that but it's for a pick up and I want more of a nerf bar style to protect both the box and the frame.
