If I wanted 1/2ton axles with 4.10s what year, model, trim, tranny. etc. would be my best bet to look for. I dont want to go to tons or even 3/4s under my burb. Its a DD that does MILD wheelin at best, with 33's. Plus I'm not switching wheels. I just figured I'd pick up a set of take offs with 4.10's in 'em, rebuild any obvious bad stuff over the winter 1 at a time. Then throw them in when I get a chance. Should still be easier and cheaper than regearing both axles.

Think it was just a matter of what packages were ordered. Know it was available in the 70's under pickups, not sure after that.

Friend scored a 10/12 bolt set with them years ago. Were under a late 70's K10.

Nice.

Have the towing packages and anything else that added GVWR?

My brother's 1977 K5 Chalet had factory 4.10's. Other than that, I haven't seen many half tons with 4.10's. On the other hand, most 3/4 tons have 4.10's.

Me thinks the 6 cylinders had 4.10s at least the 2 I have taken apart did.

To bad you weren't asking a year ago, I had a set of 10 bolts with 4.10's full setup that I couldn't even give away so they went to the junkyard.

Would gave them to you

Don't forget that you could easily find a 3/4 front 10 bolt with 4.10s and swap in your 6 lug hubs as a cheap/easy way to get half way to your goal.

Well that is just my luck. I want 4.10s for my burb but D**M gears are expensive. then adding the change kit and some body with more patience than me to set them up:whistle: And you know then theres the WHILE IM IN HERE:rolleyes:

It adds up $$$

my 1/2 ton burb, with the full on towing package, has..

3.42's :doah::doah::haha::haha:

I stripped an '85 K10 that had a 4.3 V6 in it. It had 3.42's. It was an SM465/NP208 though. I stripped a 1982 that was originally a 6 cylinder, the original owner had put a 350 in it's place. It had factory 3.08's. It was also an SM465/NP208 combo.

I bought my blue 79 because it had a huge aux trans cooler and a HD ag bumper for towing. I figured that being set up for towing it would have decent gears.

I was wrong, it had 2.73's:doah: It didnt run when I bought it, had a bad cam, but I only paid $300 so it wasnt that big of a deal.

But back to topic. Ive never seen a 1/2 ton truck with anything better than 3.73's between what Ive owned or what friends have.

I would get a front axle from a 3/4 ton with 4.10's already and swap the hubs and brakes, then bite the bullet on re-gearing the rear.

Looking on www.car-part.com I'm noticing it only lists 4.11's as an option on 70's and only in the 12 bolt. Seems like past 83 it only lists 3.73 as the deepest.

I'm suspecting that Blazinzuk was talking about the straight six engines because they were designed as work horse engines, not fuel economy engines like the 4.3 V6. But then again, I could be totally off base on all those statements. :D

I think the '82 would have had a straight six. I am not sure, it had a 350 when I pulled it out, and it has been a couple years ago, so I don't remember what the emissions sticker said.

I am also pretty sure that you could get 4.10's in a late model half ton Suburban. I know the parts guys ask if I have 3.73's or 4.10's when I get parts for my 1988 V10 Suburban.

I had a '74 K5 I stripped down and it had factory 4.10's in the 44/12.

And most 4.10 equipped 1/2 tons factory I've heard of in the early 70's was more common than newer years. Seems like back then there was only 3.73, 4.10 and 4.56 ratios and nothing else. I mean those as more common ratios for the gas era's back then.

Thats what I was seeing too. My 83 had 4.11's and appeared to be stock (accept the hurst olds motor:whistle:) I dont mind the idea of swapping out the 10b's for 44/12b as long as its mostly a bolt in deal. Looks like I will be looking for a 70's model in the weeds around here. I'm gonna try CL and see too. Should be a ton of 1/2 ton axles floating around. If I had a set of 3/4's or tons with wheels available I'd kill 2 birds with one stone and put the ones from the CC under the burb.:D
