I know in 1987 they sold like 35,000 K-5 blazers.Mine has the factory dual shocks.I never saw any other blazers around with this option.I was wondering how rare is this?

Not really that rare, my 86 has them, and my friends 85 also had them.

I even have dual fronts on my D60, however a little welding was required for that lol

Do you have any info on this setup? Is it part of a package of just dual shocks?

Yup both my k20 and 84/88 K5's had dual shocks. And yeah the k20 and 84 still had the originals :haha:

My '89 Burb has them, I was told the shocks were valved alittle lighter than the singles, duals was supposed to help with less heat fade from continous bouncing.

After some bouncy washes I drove through once, I went out and touched them, yeah they were pretty warm.

A lot on here will tell you to ditch them for a good quality single, personal preference I guess, I still run duals though.

Dual fronts were optional for all trucks but I don't know if they were available on the K30's or not. I've never heard or saw one with them. I've put some brackets on a K30 frame to see how the holes align with other holes on the K30 frame and they're not even close. This gave me the idea that K30's never had that option to run the quad shocks.

Anybody else know if this is true or not?

What are the advantages if any to dual shocks?

The main benefit was increased dampening, and reduced shock fade.

Shocks in the 80's weren't very good. Now, with improved shock technology, 95% of us get rid of the 2nd shock, and run a good single.

I only have a single steering stabilizer. Is it better to have DSS with 36 " tires?I have the extra ST,I just havn't put it on

its really a steering dampener. ideally its there to help with side to side loads on the steering system. one is enough, any more then that you are covering up a problem.

if everything is new, tight, setup right and the tires are balanced you get away without one. what happens is you lift the truck, roll the pinion up for driveline angle and it throws the ackerman angle all out of whack and the front end shakes. combine that with wheels that push the tires and your scrub radius out you will chase frontend issues till you throw 2 steering stabilizers on and forget about it until they wear out.

Quad shocks as they were called were options on K5, k10, light duty K20's(includes suburbans).

HD K20's(C6P option code) and K30s were never available with the quad shock option.

Thats not gonna stop me from using the brackets from the other trucks and installing them on a K30. Just a matter of drilling 2 new holes and enlarging 2 thats already there.

Wouldn't stop me either. My old crewcab had factory brackets on it and the one I am picking up saturday has factory brackets added to it.

Nothing on my front end has ever been replaced yet.I have alittle under 70,000 orig miles, but it still feels alittle squirrely goin down the highway. It wasn't like this when I had 31" tires.I guess the extra "dampener" will help tie up some loose ends and keep me from riding out of my lane:waytogo:
