Decided to change the fluid in the rear diff today and got a nice surprise. Its got a factory locking differential! Also fount out my rear diff fluid looked like chocolate syrup and only about half a quart of it... No metal shavings on the magnet though.

So is this a true locking or a limited slip?
I bought regular 80w 90 gear oil; Is that okay?
What kind of fluid should i be putting in there, what brand do you use?
Am i supposed to just fill it through the vent, The only other rearend ive done had a fill hole in the inspection cover.

Im not to worried as a 3/4 ton swap is in the future hopefully within a year or so.

Also noticed 3.08 gears, assumed 3.73s so that explains some sluggishness i thought was just old worn out truck feeling.

What are these scratches from? Is it something i should be worried about?

That's a Gov-lock. It's not great.

There is a fill hole in the side if the differential housing. 80/90 will work fine.

So the fill hole is in the housing? I didnt check it at all just looked at the cover.
