I was provided with a factory oil cooler adapter for the 1989 V3500, but it won't work due to the routing of the exhaust system. Basically, the adapter I have runs straight up and down with the two cooler lines fittings coming out of the front and the oil filter comes off the bottom(my 84 K5 has the exact same adapter).

I dropped by the local dealer to see what my options were, and it seems that the stock setup for the 89 big block was an adapter that positions the oil filter on a 45' angle towards the driver's side, with cooler lines coming off the front of the adapter as well. I *think* that the 45' adapter will allow the filter to clear the exhaust system.

Can someone take a pic of their adapter if they have the angled unit? Any clue where I can round one of these up without paying the General big bucks?

I've got one on a bare engine out of the truck, can get pics tomorrow, but may not get to post until Thursday morning.

The filter won't fit with the straight up-down adapter installed. I *believe* the 45' adapter will work, however. FWIW, there is room galore for the cooler lines themselves.

I've discussed the remote option with Rene, and need to look into what parts I'm gonna need to make it work. I would *prefer* to go the stock route if it works, however.

Here are the pics. Notice, there are two sets of oil cooler line ports going to either the front or rear of the engine--allows for different setups.

Right on, Jimbo!!! Thanks for the pics. That sucker would work perfect for my application.

But where is the second set of ports? Are they hidden by the filter?

What exactly is the problem that the stock straight-down type sandwich adaptor won't fit your rig?

On my '85 K30, it's got the straight-down adaptor with a shorter filter on it to clear Hedman headers.

A full size filter won't fit between the adaptor and the exhaust. And I don't really want to put a smaller filter on there. If anything, I'd like to go to a 2 quart filter if possible, thus the discussion about a remote set-up.

I believe Cam got the exhaust custom-built and realized after the fact that the factory adaptor would no longer fit. That's why it never got installed before I picked up the truck.........

It looks like the style Jimbo posted up would work out fine. Now I just gotta get my hands on one of those....

I should be headed to a junk yard within the next week. I'll pick one up if I find one.

What is a fair price for one at a JY....I have never bought one and don't want to pay anymore than I should.

Yes they are. They run parallel to the block to the front of the engine. I'll get it cleaned up and get another pic up.

Can, PM me your address, and I'll figure shipping to you.

Paul, i'd be interested in the straight down adapter you have if you're gonna get rid of it. :deal:

LOL!!!! You guys are gonna get me in trouble!!!! It would be pretty bad if one of MY threads got hit with a "notify" because it was turning into a "Parts wanted/for sale" thread in the Garage!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

PM sent, Scott. :thumb:
