where the oil cooler mounts to the block is leaking. im goin to try to do the gaskets on it and wanted to know if anybody else has done it? the gasket set has 2 big o'rings 2 gaskets 2 medium o'rings and 1 small oring. i never done this and do i use rtv silicone gasket maker on any of these gaskets?

use just one paper gskt. there should be a new o-ring seal for the outer area as well. they're a "multi" vehicle kit most of the time.

 good point. ive called a couple shops and one guy said there more trouble then there worth.? said they can throw off oilpressure gauge and catch engine sludge......and when i did the valve cover there was a lot of sludge under the rockers......so i mite just remove it... what do you guys think?

An oil cooler will definitely not cause sludge. Sludge is caused by infrequent oil changes. Change your oil more often and switch to synthetic. That will clean out that sludge in a jiffy.

Some will say to pull off the cooler but not for the reasons you mention. The main failure most see is the lines leak. If your lines are not leaking then I would replace the gasket and leave the cooler on. It can only help keep the internal engine temps down.

Cheers,

Rufus

good point, so i take it that the oil goes thru filter then cooler and then back into engine?
