factory posi unit in 86 k5

i have a 86 blazer and while i was changing the oil in the rearend i took off the cover and noticed that the posi unit looked like a regular set of spiders with a little block in between them is this what its suppose to look like??

Yep, gov-locks look like that. If you spin the wheels (carrier) with it up in the air you'll see a couple pieces hanging off the carrier, and inside the carrier (left side) the large diameter fine-toothed gear.
