There are two black metal rods that I've seen used. I believe one is attached to the A/C compressor. If someone were using an A/C delete pulley would they need to use this bracket? The other one I have no clue what it's for and I'd like to know.

Reverse rotation water pump is needed to run the stock style serpentine, right?

Also, would a power steering pump from say a pre 80's truck bolt up into the aluminum bracket fine? I'm not sure if the older v-belt trucks had the same mounting pattern on the p-pump that the newer serpentine trucks used.

What is the black steel bracket in the bottom right hand portion of the pic used for? Is it needed?

Yes, reverse rotation water pump.

The black bracket goes from the from exhaust manifold bolts to the back of the p/s pump.

That's all I've got.

Is that bracket necessary? If one were to run headers would that bracket be able to still bolt up without some kind of shimming?

With the reverse rotation pump do you have to flip your cooling fan around so the blades are oriented the opposite way?

I'm sure the set up would survive without the bracket, I don't have it on mine and no issues yet BUT I only have 200 miles or so on it.

The fan blades are specific to reverse rotation so you'll need to get a different one. I used one from a 99 C3500 w/ 454, it has 9 blades. I think there's a 6.5 diesel application that uses 10 or 11 blades, not 100% sure though.

The 2 rods go to the back side of the tensioner mount. One to the intake, the other to the left front intake bolt.
I put th long steel bracket on, because I figured that GM did it for a reason. I did have to cut the rear ear off for the exhaust mount, so it only had one bolt to the exhaust. But I would get spacers for headers.
The pump should bolt up. The pulley is the press on style, so check that.

I should add that for my set up, I didn't use the rods or exhaust bracket because they don't fit because I'm running it on a bog block. Had they fit I probably would have put them on.

I would think a 5 blade fan is good enough unless you find yourself needing more CFM at low RPM. I've used both, a 5 blade and 9 blade. All day long at the junkyard on pretty much any SBC serpentine setup. I don't have the exhaust bracket, couldn't run it, and 8k miles later seems I'm doing ok. I only have one of the bars connected to the tensioner, that's all the '90 V6 donor truck had on it.

I think I needed a new PS pump when I made the switch, can't remember. It wasn't long till I had a PSC, so I can't remember.

79 p/s pump bolted to my setup with american thread bolts of the correct length . since the serp stuff was metric by then on the p/s pump .

The two rods that bolt to the back of the tensioner gives support to that bracket. That bracket only has bolts to the head on the bottom and none in the upper portion, thus the strut brackets for the large load caused by the belt. i think it would have the same load on it with an AC bypass.

Thanks for everything fellas.

Hitting the local junkyard early Saturday and I'm planning on coming come with a full serpentine setup and everything that goes along with it.

Did Chevy change the bolt holes in the block and heads from standard to metric at some point too or just the bolts used to attach the accessories to the bracketry?

The local yard has a lot of OBS trucks sitting around.

If you don't have the female torx socket, use an 8mm -10mm. It is one of the three 6pt or 12pt, been a while. make sure you collect all the bolts you remove. Any 1989 thru 1994 V8 or V6 will work. Make sure you get the clutch fan, water pump as it is also reverse rotation

Also, note that there are 2 possible pass side brackets. One has a smog pump mount that looks similar to the half moon cradle for the a/c compressor, the one picture in the first post is without a smog pump - much cleaner looking in my opinion. Iirc, the without smog pump bracket is fairly common on 4.3's.

and to remove the driver side back bolt you must pull the p/s pulley first . then unbolt the pump . then unbolt the back bolt and remove the bracket .

If your going to the junk yard for the serp setup..find a Taurus electric fan while your there and do that electric fan swap... since you'll have it all torn out anyways

And I don't have either the rod brace or exhaust brace on mine with an AC delete pulley and its been fine. I do have the older steel bracket setup tho
