does anybody know were to buy or find a factory dash kit all gauges included for a 1979 pickup with the factory tach in it???????? My former Truck had one but the truck was a piece so i sold and bought a new truck and it didn't come with one. kicking myself! the new truck is awsome and that is really the only thing i wish i had off the old one. also how $$$ is it gonna cost me to get one??

Do a search on the Phoenix and Tucson Craigslist's. I'm sure I saw one on one of those pages in the parts section recently. I'll see if I can find it. It had the whole cluster with the Tach.

Found it.

84 CHEVY P.U. INST. CLUSTER WITH TACH.

are the 84s so much different as to they won't interchange. or is it that they will just look different??

Those gauges would work fine in your truck. They were all wired the same from 78 through 87. It has a 76-79 tach and speedo already, though the gauges on the left are the new style.

In 80, the gauges were changed from the old style blue 100 mph speedos / gas gauges to the new style yellow 85 mph speedos / gas gauges. In 83 the cruise control systems were changed from a vaccum servo style to an electronic style, which used an optical speed sensor bolted to the back of the speedometer to provide the speed signal. In 87, that optical sensor was used for the fuel injection.

Usually high trim model trucks, like Sierra Classic, or Silverado. They were around from 73 through 82 - 84ish. The 73 - 75 tachs are colorless, and are fairly rare, but not worth a whole lot. The 76-79 tachs are common, and are fairly cheap, but the 80+ tachs are very rare, and go for a premium on ebay.

I've found that K5s, burbs, and Crewcabs usually are the most likely to have a tach, in that order. The Trucks rarely got them, but if they did, it was usually in a shortbox, or a stepside.

rare here...

I have only seen a handfull of factory tachometers ,and most all of them were in "medium duty" trucks like C-60's,school busses, or one ton dually's with manual tranny's..I think the dash cluster is the same on the C-60's,that is where I'd look first if junkyard hunting for one..

The medium duty truck tachs are also worth big bucks if you can find one... They bolt straight into a pickup, but have a vaccum gauge where the tach fuel gauge normally goes, and the tach has a fuel gauge integreated into the bottom of it.

Isnt there something else you need to hook up a tach? I remember someone saying you need a diode or resistor when you hook up to the dizzy........

Ok so what year/style trucks have the stock tach in the clusters?

I had a '78 Scottsdale K10 with the in-dash tach and TH350. It was my truck that burnt up in '97 :(

It's hit or miss... Most of the tach's I have seen were mid 70's trucks. No particular type of truck though as it was a stand alone option available on any truck that had gauges instead of idiot lights.

I found this today on eBay. It's a '75 Chevy K10 with the in-dash tach option. I'd kill to have this gauge package in my Blazer...
