i have tried to get in touch with JB Conversions for the past 3 weeks with no luck, does anyone have the part # for the fafnir bearing for a sye on a 1990 blazer passenger side drop

If someone hasnt answered you by tomorrow afternoon, I have one in a box in my shop. When I get hom from work tomorrow eve, I will get the number for you.

Crap, I got home last night and completely forgot. Sorry. Wrote myself a note and I promise I will check tonight.

So I came home early so I could see what Im doing and pulled the bearing and seal I have out of the box. Of course there isnt a number anywhere on either. Figures..... So I called a buddy of mine who owns a NAPA Parts Store. He said to drop it off and he would measure it and cross it over to a NAPA # So one more day bud and I should have it. I cant believe theres not a mark on it anywhere. Your right, it is like pulling teeth. I will post up the numbers here so anyone can get em.

Well, not a common bearing at all. Just want to confirm that what I am looking for is what you have. Is the inner race about 3/16" of an inch wider than the outside width of the bearing? Weve called a bearing house to get a number. NAPA doesnt make them. I called JB Conversions and got their answering machine. I will have a source and number for you soon. The seal # is NAPA # 18662 in case you need that. If your rig is down, I can send you the one I have (its brand new) and we will just replace it once we figure out what it is. After this, Im gonna get a spare. :thumb:

IIRC that bearing is a proprietary bearing made ONLY for JB conversion and can not be bought ANYWHERE.

its not made just for them, i actually did talk to them a few years ago, they modify the center (enlarge it) my peoblem is i cant get through on the phone and they dont return emails. All this when i need a new one.

Like I said, I have one I can send you. I sit at a desk all day and just went back on days from graves, so I have all day to call JB Conversions repeatedly:D

How about somebody posting a couple of pics of this critter. Especially showing the custom part of it.

It is certainly possible that it is proprietary, bearing companies will make whatever you want.
But the minimum order for something like that makes it very unlikely in this case.

Over the years, I have had to find some very weird stuff. I've gotten pretty good at it.
I downloaded the installation manual for the kit I think. It does not show a good picture of it, but it does refer to the "bearing with the raised inner race".

Whatever that means.
If I can get an idea of what we are looking for, I'll check around.

I know size is critical, but the main thing I need is what is different. If I can find who makes something like that, and what it is called, then maybe I can find one the right size.

Every time I see this thread's title I think it's something you'd send the wife to the parts house for, like a fancy muffler bearing.

"You see, your car's got a bad fafnir bearing, I'm gonna spend all day fixing that AND it will need new blinker fluid..."

I know what you mean. Its not as bad for me because I have used a lot of that brand of bearing, but it still looks weird.

BTW, I just realized I come off as more stupid than normal with that last post. I know what a raised inner race bearing looks like.
The inner race sticks out past the housing so that it bottoms out before the housing does.
This takes any side loading off the bearings.
I'm just not sure what they mean by that.........

I just went back and started rereading this. I misread it the first time. When you say the inner is wider, I thought you were talking about diameter.

Do you mean that the inner race is "thicker" than the outside thickness?

So if you lay it flat on a table its going to sit on the inner race?

If so, thats a common style bearing. I can get them all day long. Now the size might be custom, but not that part.

Yes, its thicker by about 3/16". Time isnt a big deal any more. Im going to send him my spare to get him going and I will bug JB conversions till I get an answer. The only thing that makes me think it might be custom is there are no mfg or numbers on the new one I have. It came in a JBC 241 SYE kit I got a while back. Once I get a part number, I'll post it here.

OK, sounds like a standard bearing. They may have ordered them with no numbers so you have to go back to them.

Motion Industries would be able to get them if you had a store nearby.
NAPA is a good source when you have numbers, but get limited real fast when you don't.

It should be easy to get one by the size. We just need to mic the inner and outer diameter, and the thickness of the outer race and the inner race.

Any bearing shop can look it up from those.

I used to know a girl who lived over in Sulphur.
Shame I lost contact with her.
I could have called her up and she would have gone over and gotten a bearing if she had to take an ax to the door.........

I have a friend that owns a NAPA store. We mic'ed it out yesterday and NAPA does not have it. We called the bearing house in LA, but they hadnt called back by close of bus on friday. I will get it figured out, but I appreciate everyones help/input. Even if it does turn out to be custom, (probably not though) I have access to a machine shop.

For the record, the reason I say it is a proprietary bearing is because years ago I had called JB conversions about it and that's what they told me and I had already looked dimensionally for a bearing with no luck so I believe them when they said it is proprietary
