RSWORDS submitted a new Build:

Family wheeler - 83 K5

Well.... I reckon I'll start a thread....

The wife and I have been a wheeling couole for a while.... i have a 85 toyota truggy and the wife a 87 samurai.

This is the truggy. It's no going anywhere. The issue is with a new addition 6 months ago we have bo place for the 3rd butt. And i have no real intrest in building the wifes Sammie.

I've always wanted to build something income Conan ultimate adventure style trip in. And a blazer seems to fit the bill perfect. So after some searching a 83 followed me home. Going to be a pretty basic build. Tons with lockers, 40s, dual cases and 5.3/4l60 swap.

The truck was a diesel truck when new but someone swapped in a 350 at some point.

I wish my 83 was that clean!
I got lucky. The outer rocker on the drivers side, a small spot on the drivers fender and two small holes behind the seats are the only rot. I expected to find ALOT more when we started stripping it down.

That’s awesome! I wish I would have gotten then lucky! Mine didn’t look bad until i started stripping it down and then found a spot that had been smashed and rusted out behind the drivers door.

Still been slow. To busy with work and fishing. I did find out it has a 305 and not a 350 like I was told. So I dug out a 350 4 bolt block, a set of vortec heads, eddlebrock performer intake, and a comp xe 262 cam. Should be around 320 crank HP and a ton of low end torque. I'll do a fuel injection swap of sown sort and call it good enough.

Eventually. When I do that I'm gonna do it right. This will keep me happy for now.

So why not just keep the 305?

Martin
It runs damn good but needs valve seals. I refuse tonput money in it.... Because 305.

I have all the stuff to build this motor already. And when I do swap the LS I'll have a 300+ HP small block for something else.

This all started because I was going to snatch the motor out of the truck and swap the cam, heads, and intake yesterday. Then i found out it was a 305 when I could read the casting number.

I'll toss this in over a weekend and be happy wile I build a LS and tranny.

Man how time flies. Just been driving it for the summer. To much other stuff to do. Falls here now so its game time. Picked up a 60/14 bolt setup. Some 37s for now, and started putting the 350 together that I've had back from the machine shop since December. Lol

One day, maybe I'll slow down at the shop and be able to work on my own stuff. Got the motor out of the truck, so ill be finishing up building the other motor. At this point it's just waiting on the oil pump to show up, getting all the accessories on, and stabbing her back in the truck

So here a question. Anyone have any tricks for cleaning up the aluminum on an alternator and AC compressor? They both work fine but look older.

Wow, kinda forgot about this.

The engine has been in for a while, plenty of low end and pulls strong up top also. Added a TCI rev manual VB with engine braking in 1st and 2nd, got 4.56s and Detroit's for the front and rear tons, gonna run my 39.5 pitbull rockers. Also picked up some DOM for the cage and am looking for a doubler setup.

Winter/Art Carr shifter (rockgate on the way)

Got the winter/art carr shifter mounted. I love this goat built mount. Its perfect, has a great angle, and the drink holders are perfect.

Used an old street sign to make a flat spot where the old console was. Few 1/4" nut certs to attach the shifter base and bam. Shifter mounted. It's easy to reach, use and I have plenty of room for my twin sticks on the other side of it.

All of it will be coming back out to fix the floor, put down vinyl and paint the mounts at some point.
