I finally figured out why my Sub has been making a bunch of noise up front. The fan shroud and fan contact when the I hit the gas hard, particularly in 4WD. My Sub had a 2" body lift on it when I got it. How can I fix this problem? Mount it lower? It looks like I'll have to cut up a lot of it to stop the fan from hitting. And I don't want to cause any cooling issues.

These first 3 pics are all from right below the shroud, you can see the harmonic ballancer in all of them.

The last pic is looking from in front of the crossmember.

I would lower the shroud, & check the motor mounts to make sure thay are not worn out.

Then replace the shroud or drill holes in it & stitch it back together with zip ties or bailing wire.

I had the same issue in my trail truck. The fan shroud would make noise when the truck was flexed out on rocks or extreme trails. etc. The clutch fan cooled the truck fine, but I hated the noise, so I tried modding the shroud (which only marginally worked). I wound up installing a Flex-a-lite dual electric fan, which I absolutely love. :)

What type of sound was it makin? cause my truck had been making a unusual sound when i get on the skinny pedal kinda hard. And I know a part of my shroud is broken, cause the PO fixed it with duct tape.

It sounded like... umm.. like a fan whacking repeatedly into a chuck of flexible plastic. Kind of a cross between a helicopter and a buzz saw. Not a pleasant sound, and I was not interested in burning out the clutch fan, or sending a chunk of fan blade into my radiator while on Tank Trap. :)
