why would my fan be hitting the fan shroud? when the engine is cold it hits it but as the engine warms it goes away. its worse when i turn the wheels and get on the gas. is the engine sitting to low, do motor mounts get worn out? the fan shroud isnt ajustable it just bolts on to the radiator. its the original fan blade and shroud. something dosent make sence, any ideas?

Check your motor mounts - they sound like they may be wasted. Also, do you have a body lift on your truck?

no lift. that what i was thinking but i just havent ever heard of motor mounts getting worn out. id hate to go through all of the work to find out that wasnt the case. i wonder how i could tell

With the hood open and the truck in gear, sit behind the wheel. Firmly hold one foot on the brake and goose it a little. The engine should jump. If it does, the mounts are bad. That is just a shade tree way of checking, but they still may be bad even if it does not. You might want to replace the trans/transfer case mount at the same time for a little insurance. I used the poly ones, and they have held for both a small and big block (same set of mounts moved between the two).

BE CAREFUL WHEN DOING THIS.

Mine did the same thing, and it was the motor mounts. I replaced them and the transmission mounts at the same time, with poly mounts from Jegs. They came as a complete kit for like $125, I think.

i went to lmc and got a set of originals for $40 so i guess ill give it a try. there goes a sat. afternoon.

Check the radiator support mounts as well. One of mine was totally gone and one time I was flexing offroad and the fan hit the lower shroud and ripped it in half

The mounts shouldn't take you more than an hour to do both. Like everyone else said, change the t-case mount at the same time and make sure it is the same material as the engine mounts. IE: rubber on engine needs rubber on t-case, urethane on engine needs urethane on t-case.

that was it the rubber bushings were split in half and were not doing squat. should get the new ones sat.

I had this problem in 2 different trucks. It was the radiator support bushing. The bolt pulled thru the support and when wheeling, the fan and shroud made love all the time.

I couldnt' believe the driveabilitiy difference after i swaped mounts in my blazer. It felt quicker off the line, haha

the 2 radiator bushings are 2 of 4 holding the body on the frame. the fan noise and exhaust tick were driving me crazy. i hope the new motor mounts and manifolds quiet it down so i can hear the peices fall off as i drive down the road.
