A few weekends ago, I was out on a nice camping trip that included some mild wheeling. I had an issue though with the fan hitting the lower fan shroud. Now, it turns out that my radiator core support was not actually mounted to the frame (fixed), but with the frame flexing that much, I was wondering if it's a common problem? My lower shroud is toast now, the fan tore it up good. I'll be ordering a new one soon since I can't find one at my local junkyard, and the price is reasonable from LMC truck.

It may have been worse when the fan ate the shroud, I'm not sure since it self clearanced itself :doah:

looks like from the pic, you have some worn out body mounts. most likley your problem

Poly body mounts will fix that problem but only until the body rips apart from frame flex.

Wheeling is hard on these old trucks!

Yep, bad body bushings for sure. Speaking of body bushings, I guess I should install my new Energy Suspension body bushings that i've had kicking around for the last 2 years or so. :doah: Always seems when I have time I don't have anyone to lend a hand and when I have someone to lend a hand I don't have time.

Cool, so I guess the consensus is that especially since the core support wasn't bolted to the frame (front body mounts I guess), that's probably the main reason for contact.

I'll check out energy suspension for the rest of the body mounts... I was considering a poly mount for the trans already.

I've "only" got 160k on this rig. But, I bought it used... and the previous owners used it at Pismo Beach. Who knows how hard they were on it?

Thanks for the replies!

bad motor mounts will do this too, of course with the added body flex that doesn't help.

I had slight rubbing issues awhile back and found the motor mounts to be bad, lets the motor sit lower than it really should and flex/move more than normal.
