guys,

is it a good idea with any advantages to cancel out the cooling fan and connect electrical fans instead??

thanks

Stay with the clutch fan. It is more dependable, and any horsepower or mileage gains are nominal (I just put them on a mustang). You might want one to supplement the clutch fan, but stick with the clutch.

A heavy duty or severe duty fan clutch will do you just fine, if you want to supliment it, use an 11" electric pusher fan like the factory did on the big block suburbans.

I'm gonna go the other way and say, if you're building a trail rig (specificly if you plan on hitting water), then go for some electric ones.

I run a set of Windstar fans on my K5. They replaced a non-clutch fixed blade fan. The biggest advantage I've found is that it warms up faster in the winter. Other than that, there isn't anything noteworthy about them. Didn't notice much, if any miliage increase. Throttle response seems a touch bit better though.

As far as being more dependable, if you've got the fans properly set up, you shouldn't have any problems. Hundreds of thousands of vehicles are on the road today with electric fans without any problems.

its pretty hot here specially in the summer..

a friend told me that he gained much more power and felt that his engine had less work on it after removing the clutch fan and installed electric fans on both sides of the radiator..

If he's running fans on both sides of the radiator, then he should upgrade to a bigger set of fans behind the rad.

Electrics will pull allot more air through at idle, good for if you plan on sitting and idling for awhile. A mechanical fan would be better if you plan on towing in a hot climate (I didn't look at his location in my first post). For just DD'ing it, either way will be about the same at freeway speeds.

I would perfer the electric to if you do a lot of slow trail driving it will cool much better and also in go and stop traffic in will cool better because it pull a constit amount of air

not the most important thing in the world but, my ac got a lil colder at idle after i put in the electric fans

I'll throw my $0.02 - There may be more to it than just installing electric fans. What condition is your electrical system in? What size alternator? What other electrical draw do you have? Can your charging system handle electric fans with your other electrical stuff. More than likely, it will.

I just swapped over to electric fans. I used double fans with a SPAL controller. No real reason other than I wanted to. I upgraded my alternator to a 94 Amp from the 63 amp before the install. The biggest benefit for me was getting more room in the engine bay.

I haven't run it through a summer yet but I really like the setup. (Phoenix AZ area). It heats up a little faster as well.
