Just thinking out loud...

With all the new retro cars out there like the new Mustang, Camaro, Charger...etc...

Why doesn't GM make a new 1969 or 1973 Blazer....with a newly designed top...did the convertible truck never catch on or are they too dangerous by today's standards...

Why no true retro trucks...like a reissue of the old Sanford and Son pickup...etc...the cars do well...seems the trucks would be easier... :dunno:

I know I would probably be standing in line for one if they came out with a retro Blazer. Hopefully it would come with a straight axle underneath. Chevy has a bad habit of putting IFS under everything nowadays. :doah:

forgot about the SSR already?

not that I wouldn't love to see a full vert blazer again, but I'm guessing the reason the removable tops got smaller and then disappeared is because so few people ended up removing them because of how much of a pita it was. :dunno:

I don't know what that thing is....but it's not a truck...it's not retro either...looks like a VW

And I agree that the top is a PIA, but there should be that option...maybe one day they will revisit the old Blazer again...right now there isn't one...I think it's the Tahoe?

With all the modern crash safety regs, emissions rules, etc. a "new" interpretation of the classic K5 is sure to be an embarrassment.... Both visually and functionally.

Instead of dropping $50K on a lame "retro" factory K5..... You could build your own, get exactly what you want (which we all know GM wouldn't build anyway) and have the satisfaction of driving something truly unique.

That's my strategy with my '72....Come to think of it, you are doing the came thing with yours. No chance of seeing another truck like yours anywhere on Amity island either! :)

just cuz we're weird over old trucks, doesn't mean the sheep would be....

the retro cars have one important theme, they where/are muscle cars...

yep...i guess if everybody drove them they wouldn't be unique at all...

I always wished GM and the other manufacturers would have offered a stock "retro" truck,(and the classic muscle cars too),only with a modern EFI engine, brakes, and suspension....and the "legal" bs like air bags ,and other things considered "nesessities" today..........................................................................................................................imagine being able to walk in a GM dealership and buy a "brand new" ,built in 2012, Chevy 4x4 pickup ,identical to say,a 1957 Chevy truck or a '66 K-10,or the first and second generation Blazers...or a '69 GTO,Camaro,or Chevelle...though the price would be obcene, and probably more than a mint original or restored one would cost.it would be really sweet owning one that you know has ZERO rust lurking anywhere, and the chassis dont have 40+ years of metal fatigue to worry about.................................................................................................The SSR was a flop,it looks like a Studebaker, cant carry anything,is pratically useless as a "truck",and costs WAY too much ,for what it is...I bet they never sold that many,I think I've seen maybe 5 of them in my area since they were introduced...The other thing they introduced that looks like a PT Cruiser but was supposed to look like a '41 Suburban isn't a hot seller either..I think its homely, they sure could have picked a better "retro" truck to copy that that thing,IMO.............................................................................We need a good old school straight axled GM from years ago, with some modern upgrades...I would think they would be very popular with the older guys like me,who miss vehicles that they could actually work on,and prefer classic good looks to todays bland generic looking trucks...face it,the supply of decent repairable old trucks is drying up fast, and new laws against re-registering "modified" vehicles will only discourage more people from going thru the hassles to restore an old truck too...

The EPA is doing a good job of keeping the chemicals overpriced...the emissions can be a deterrent....programs like cash for clunkers probably destroyed tens of thousands...China's glut for steel is taking the rest...

and whatever is left surely is at an all time high demand...look at all the restoration shows on TV...still, there are a few around...but I bet the numbers are near extinction compared to just 20 years ago...

Shouldn't be that bad jeeps are still open top, why not build a k5? Dodge is now using the AAM axles and a Power wagon front 60 would work with the abs system. It can't be that hard to figure out a suspension system to support it. Jeep always has cool prototypes in moab for easter wtf is chevys problem? Honestly after doing some trail driving in CO this week I was the ONLY chevy on any trail. Lots of imports and jeeps and a couple of ford f150s. The ifs k1500 went everywhere a nissan Xterra could with just a gov bomp and some coop ATs. Time for chevy to build something worth a $hit. Maybe even be smart and build Idk a turbo charged V6, a real truck, something. Honestly I am a dyed in the wool chevy guy and the only 1/2 ton I would consider is a ecoboost. They need to start thinking out of the box or they are headed the way of the dodo bird.

oh, I'm with ya, it ain't a real truck, but that is what they came up with. :dunno:

I'd love to see some sort of full vert blazer, but I just don't see it happening on a full sized truck. even those of use that love them tend to either never take them off, or never put them on.
