fascinating stuff:

someone should tell him to get a ruffstuff cover and test it .

and kirt @ diy4x offers the razor back version . . heatsinks if you think about it .

We've been following this over on duramax diesels since the first video posted. Gale Banks always twists fact to say his stuff is the best. The magtech covers have been around alot of years, when was the last time you heard someone complain about premature gear or bearing failure caused by lack of lube while running one.
There is already one company that makes a stockish shaped finned cover (pictured in 1st video) he says its junk because it has a small reservoir on the bottom.
He will release a cover within a month of the final video with scientific proof of how it's the only one in the known universe that's built right. Just like everything else he makes.

He is one hell of a salesman that's for sure. I will say that he does a ton of R&D on whatever products he puts out. So if you can weed through some of the bs, there is a lot of good info being put out.

You can say what you want about GB, but i bet money his socks end up in the hamper at the end of the day----NOT on the floor. (Admittedly, mine don't always----hey sometimes i'm too tired.) Mrs. Banks is a lucky woman.

What i'm trying to say is that he's a THOROUGH mofo.

After the first video I knew it was a sales pitch so it kind of turned me off a bit. It was definitely good info and thoroughly tested, but when you know the “low introductory price of 5 easy payments of $1100” is coming, it takes some of the interesting away.

I’m in the middle of my sidewinder turbo install. I can honestly say, for $2600 I am not at all impressed with the fit and finish on exhaust manifold and some of the other smaller pieces that come in the kit. As long as it works I’m not going to bitch too much, but I had higher expectations for things like fit and finish given the price tag. And for some reason it peeves me that I have to reuse a lot of hardware, but I also realize if they threw in eight more bolts, heat wrap tape and a header donut the price would probably go up $300-400.

It's long, so you might want to get popcorn and beverage......

1) It's not as expensive as i thought it would be at $400.
2) He mentions improved MPG, but doesn't provide at data?

3) i think unless you're doing extreme racing type stuff, a stock cover will be fine?

At some point I’d like to put a cover on mine but for $300+ (most brands) I’m in no hurry. The stock cover is fine otherwise you would have seen recalls, plus Banks didn’t increase capacity with his so that indicates there’s enough oil.

I did recently see that some of the later Dodges (2015+?) can come with a finned aluminum cover if equipped with the “max tow” option.

I know this is an old thread but I've gotta chime in. I spent 10+ years building and racing high performance diesels and there is a reason Banks is the laughing stock of performance and diesels. Way overpriced for the gain you get and no, it's no where near as safe as he says it is. I'd never run a thing from him.

Yep, they can be had from the dealer for ~$80 and include all new bolts. I put one on my '03 a few years back. Very nicely made....and factory engineered!

I didn't see any measurement of the amt of oil reaching the pinion with any of the covers.

This also makes me wonder, if I may have overfilled my diff. I rotated the pinion up significantly when I went to a double-cardan joint on the back and filled to the usual fill hole.

I have heard this from numerous people on forums. I am not knowledgeable enough on the diesel performance parts to dispute it, but most of the commercially available diesel performance parts are all overpriced. Is there a company out there you think is better that sells diesel performance products?
