I haven't had to use engine degreaser in many years. I recently bought a truck that has an engine oil leak that I can not locate because everything is covered in oil.
Anyways, back when I used to do restorations, I would use Gunk to get the funk off before tearing into a project until I picked up a case of it and it was their new enviro-friendly (read non-working) variety. That stuff was horrible.

So what degreaser have you used that works well??

Also, I think I am going to try some oven cleaner on some of the baked-on caked-on stuff. Any recomendations on that stuff?? The last stuff I bought was thinner than water and worked worse.

Oven cleaner is my main recommendation. It might eat some paint off, but it cleans very well.

I like the new gel type engine cleaners. Doesn't evaporate as fast as the regular type and gives you some time to work with it. Haven't picked one brand over another yet.

I'm removing asphalt based rust preventative. Kerosene & a pressure washer, 3200 PSI, are working pretty well on that.:D

i have some crap at home that is INCREDIBLE. ill get the name and a pic of it when i get home.

I usually just use the cheap stuff from the auto parts store... Sprays on like foam, I let it sit then take a wire brush to it and rinse.

I just bought 3 cans of regular gunk brand its not the enviro stuff. Did they stop selling the original formula in other parts of the country? They had both, original and enviro, at checker when I bought these last week.

Hot water pressure washer is by far the easiest... :D
With a gallon of Mean Green to with it.

We have a pressure washer that has a little hose that attaches to the pump and will siphon the soap to be mixed with the hot water. Works good.

Actually I just remembered some stuff called SIMPLE GREEN it usually comes consentrated and when heated it works so good!!! and its also environmentally safe! We used it in our parts cleaner in high school, and it cleaned everything and it smells good. They sell it at walmart for sure!!

Didn't your daddy tell you that the oil leaking all over your engine was designed on purpose? Top secret, high tech engineering to help protect the engine from being clean.

Simple Green works fairly well for degreasing mix it real strong with some hot water and scrub with a brush. Should help.

Proetcts the motor ... and the frame and the underside of the body from rust.

Also protects the driveway from rust. :doah:
