Well, plans have already been put in to motion to repair my 91 Sub after the Annoying accident, and i figure the easiest and cheapest way to both upgrade the truck and conceal some of the Fender damage(lower) to both front and rear fenders is to buy a set of urethane or rubber Fender flares! they would cover the damage perfectly! Only ones I have come across seem to bee in the high $300-$400 range! this seems steep. What do you guys run? what did they cost? what should i expect to pay? and does anyone have any used they would like to sell? heheh!

Fender flares might be one of the worst products ever invented. Might as well put a visor on while you're at it.

I gotta disagree completely,ChevyDan3 unless they are chrome or gold plated, i think they look great! newer suburbans have them factory, Jeep cherokee etc...it looks good to me.I don't need/want anything gaudy, just something to cover and enhance, nothing crazy just basic.

I like flares too. Don't have any but I like them. I kind of need them if I drive it on pavement. Cops don't like how much my tires stick out. Someday I will get some. For the now, trailer it is.

I used some Bushwacker cut out style flares on the S10 I had. I used them for kinda the same reasons you want, to cover up rusted out wheel openings and to trim back some sheet metal. They were expensive but did the job. They do crack and break when you get into stuff off road, but you don't strike me as doing any tight knit 4 wheeling in that burb any time soon.

Yeah, what RED MONSTER said!

I run Warn 4x Flares on my ’78. I wouldn’t recommend these. They are hard plastic and don’t fit all that great, especially in the rear. The flap towards the rear of the flare always gets snagged on the front tires under hard articulation.

Depending how big you want go I would recommend Xenon flares, as they are soft rubber. I plan on using these for my Suburban project. If the fenders aren't rusty, why bother cutting up a perfectly good truck with cut-outs. The bad news is all the flare options are expensive. Expect to pay $400-$500 for a set :doah:

I made fender flares out of the tickets I got, strangely they didn't last too long :D:D

The bushwacker cutouts are my favorite types of flares and I think they look pretty good but they are spendy.

My buddy has quite a few sheetmetal tools I may try to make a reasonable facsimile out of metal for the Jimmy here in a couple years

Larry, what's the details(make, model, etc...)on the popup camper shell? Sorry for derailing the thread, but I have to ask...

On that same note, Larry, is there a build thread on that truck somewhere? That's probably my most favorite K10 ever.

I run Bushwackers on my Yukon, and I wouldn't recommend them much either, they don't fit well and are hard plastic. Mine is sadly more of a street machine than hardcore offroader. But I don't ever plan on serious off road work other than backcountry camping. That being said, I love what they do, they improved the looks dramatically and help keep the mud and road spray off my mirrors and windows in winter. If you do go for a set, look for the kind that are rubber based and not urethane based, they'll be much more durable.

Thanks guys,

I am out on the trail now for a week of playing around Southern Utah and Western Colorado. I’ll reply back when I have better internet service. I think if you click my user name and go to my home page it will send you to a Flickr link with tons of pictures. The truck has been my project since 1996 so there isn’t really a build thread although there are threads around other sites of projects I’ve done to it. More later.

You can follow us along on SPOT GPS if you curious to see where we have been and where are now.

Sorry to jack the fender flare thread.
