Fender flares

you can go to the bushwacker website and download the pdf file for our trucks. it will give you the measurements that would need to be cut if you were to put on the bushwacker flares. that should give you an idea if you cut more too much, and cant use their product.

I got bushwacker flares from summitracing.com and they didnt allow much cutting..

fronts allowed 1" front and back of tire (or 2" total) and rear allowed 2" front and back (or 4" total)...
I recentered my rear axle by cutting the wheel well 4" forward and put bushwacker cutout flares on...:wink1:

that is with 6" superlift front leafs and superlift 10" front leafs (with factory block removed lowering the back down to about 7.5"
and the tires are a true 38.8" high (40" hawgs mounted on 16.5x12 rims)

Anybody ever try to install a set of rear flares in the front? I know that the rears are longer and I thought maybe if you are already cutting off the lower front fender (in front of the front tire) it could fit. I couldn't find any information on the actual dimensions of the flares, though. I can measure some wheel wells and then use their cutting instructions to get the opening length, but that doesn't say anything about the curve of the fenders.

My other question is about the fuel fill door. Do you really have to cut it on a K-5 or can the flare be trimmed to avoid interference?

You could always try a different year truck. Like a 3500 or f350. I have heard of people doing it that way

I've always wanted to get a set of Ford ones as they're more rounded than square like the chevy ones :dunno:

I have a set of rear flares here now and I don't see any way to use them on the front. Nearly 3" of cutting is required front and rear, which is past the inner fender. Assuming you're willing to pull the inner fender and trim to the firewall, the height of the flare is still wrong. The front fender opening is about 2" taller than the rear.

Here's the measurements I got:

-Front wheel opening height: 16 front, 18.5 rear
-Front wheel opening length ~35 3/4 at the bottom (hard to tell because it's trimmed a little)

-Rear wheel opening height: 16.5 front, 14 1/4 rear
-Rear wheel opening length: ~37.5

There is definately interference with the fuel fill door. I can't imagine cutting it off. Assuming that it would be painted anyway, I guess the flare could be notched a little and filled with fiberglass.
