hey im planning on trimming my fenders in the front and rear and i was wondering if i could get everyones input on which way would be the easiest/best looking way to go about this. should i use a sawzall? air saw? grinder? any input is appreciated

I've tried several different methods.

Using a cutoff wheel on a grinder (and taking your time!) worked best for me

Use some tape to lay out the lines. Take measurements from body lines to make it easier to duplicate to the other side.

I used a cutoff wheel to cut the outer panels then went back with a sawzall to cut the inner fenders.

Cutoff wheel on the outer skin, sawzall to get inside and cut all the bracing. I trimmed a little bit more than the usual "fit 35's with 4" lift" trim job.

k so im gonna use a cutoff wheel for the outer and sawzall for the inner, im assuming that a cutoff will work for the inner if i cant get ahold of a sawzall it will just be a little more of a hassle than the sawzall, did you guys put any protective coating over where you trimmed or just left as is? i was thinking some rust bullet if i have any left over or is this a waste? everyones input is greatly appreciated as this is my first project

i used a cut off wheel on a 4.5" grinder. I used it on both inner and outter sheets. Theres some tough parts on the inside next to the firewall, just take your time with teh wheel and youll get through them.

thanks everyone for your help, ill post pics of what happened after i get it done which should be this weekend... hopefully

I used a sawzall on mine, but I just cut off the inner 'fangs'. The cuts were kind of ugly but you can't really see them anyways. The sawzall pretty much cut through it like butter.

I used an air cutting wheel. Very easy to control and made very clean cuts. Look in my gallery, there are pics there of the trim job. I also posted a full write up in here a while ago.

Be careful of the speedo cable.
I prefer the 4.25 on all of it. Just easier to manuver and control. I have since cut off a lil more of the inner fender and beat back the seam on the body. That lil piece at the bottom had cancer so I cut it too. As far as measuring, I just laid a pice of cardboard up there and traced a shape I liked, cut it out and used that piece to trace the line on each side.

I used the following: plasma cutter, sawzall, air grinder, electric grinder.

The electric angle grinder worked best for me with an 1/8 inch thick wheel.

the tape is a good idea, that is what I did, it does try to burn as you get close to it. I also made a cardboard template to use when I put the tape on.

Body shop made my work look good when I was done.

I used a grinding wheel. However the sawzall was handy for some areas that I just couldn't get the grinder in to and I didn't need to be that worried about the finished result.

Blue tape is wonderful.
