I started trimming the fenders on my 86 K5, I trimmed the front of the front fender and noticed it's two pieces.

How do you guys keep them together once they have been trimmed? I was thinking riveting but really didn't want to have holes or I thought about spot welding them together but was worried about boiling the paint

Any suggestions?

I made a piece of metal to cover the opening left by cutting, and welded it on.

One thing I've considered as I'm thinking about re-attaching the trim on mine is using self-tapping sheet metal screws to attach it to the new curvature, and using a screw or two to go through the trim and both pieces of metal, holding it all together.

I cut the inner an inch more than the outer then rolled the outer and tack welded it in to place . looks good and no sharp edges.

Thats what I would have done if I was concerned... but both my trucks arent really much to look at. :D
