Anyone on here run them? Thinking about switching to a pair when I redo my exhaust. It would be a lot simpler than trying to route 3-3.5" around the tcase again.....

Mad Dog makes some nice stuff but it looks like you'd have to have a fair amount of lift to keep the tires off of the collectors.

Ya I was looking @ the mad Dog ones and also the Tri-5 set. I've heard 50/50 that they fit and don't hit the front primary w/ the steering shaft. There's $220 difference between the two. I could cut & move the one primary to where it wouldn't but just trying to get some feedback before I do that.....

What specific issue are you trying to address? Running a weird setup that causes clearance issues?

Is there another reason to not run "standard" style headers? Pretty impressed with the Hedman 62230/69830 fitment.

Don't think SBC ones are gonna fit on a BBC! Looking to go bigger primaries. The cheapest I've found regular ones are $561....

He has a BBC. Big block headers are a PITA with respect to pipe routing around the crossmember and t-case, big pipe would be miserable.

That makes sense. Are pretty much all of the BBC headers a pain to deal with? Those linked above are 3.5" collectors, that's pretty dang big.

That's what makes the (completely pointless comparison) hedman's I talked about so good...the collectors are substantially further forward (and up), which gives you enough space to bend exhaust under the bellhousing, eliminating all the problems with trying to route exhaust down the passenger side of the truck. I would think similar would help with the BBC, if they exist. The bottom are the ones that Hedman makes for the SBC/truck, the top one is what they make that actually fits.

I've run Hedman and flowtech long tubes over the years and they both position the collector directly inline with the crossmember, depending on the trans / crossmember location you might have as little as about 4" ~ 5" to turn the tube up and over the crossmember. I have yet to see a full length header specifically for a 4wd square body that positioned the collector better.

This routing PITA was the main reason I went with shorties this time. I know they don't flow as well but I was able to route the exhaust much better with them.

with a th350 it wasn't too bad with the Headmans. Not sure if I'm going to use them with the new setup since I'm clocking the 205 and need to merge them together on the DS.

Here's a pic so you can see the distance from the collector to the trans crossmember. My bigger complaint was the collector/driveshaft clearance.

With this set of headers, I didn't need any vertical re-positioning to get the exhaust to clear the drivers side, but I'm also using the '85+ crossmember. The ones I ran previous needed a pretty good bend to get up and over the crossmember.

If they made the 62230's with the pipes positioned for the BBC exhaust ports, they'd be on the right track. I'm guessing the BBC has clearance issues on the side of the block to frame if the pipes don't sweep rearward however?

I've never looked into it, but the long tubes for BBC's seem to be quite long compared to the SBC designs.

Kind of hard to tell from that pic, but a collector that was a few inches closer to the front of the truck seems like it make give enough space to make a bend to go over the driveshaft. The height looks about right.

I'd have to measure clearance on mine to see if 3-3.5" tubing would still clear with room. I imagine it's possible, but that would depend on finding the right header.
