owner said he started it a while ago and it backfired. some small things went on fire. few small hoses. insulation off the wires.
we looked at it. fixed what we needed too. replaced the wires. cranked it with the air cleaner off. second time we cranked it. it fired. saw a fireball form the tbi. nothing caught this time.

what could this be? think the one injector is not working now.

second question on a 88 k5.
i hear the fuel pump. seems a bit loud now that i think about it. no gas coming out the injectors. engine light is not on. ideas?

thanks

I think I would use a noid light on the injector connectors to make sure power is going to the injectors. It might be possible one of the injector drivers in the ECM just went bad? If the noid lights flash, then the injector drivers are OK.

I'd check fuel pressure just after the fuel filter, maybe the fuel pump is starting to die? I don't think everyone is setup to check fuel pressure just after the fuel filter ... but that is what I'd do.

If you don't have noid lights or a way to test fuel pressure ... Just unplug one injector ... if you have one bad injector I'm thinking you have a 50/50 chance of the engine not even starting.

Bad fuel injectors (poor flow) could be a cause of back firing. Low fuel pressure is one reason why fuel injectors have poor flow. It's also possible the pressure regulator in the TBI is going bad, which would be another reason for poor injector flow.

FYI cheap noid light is a dash light bulb. Bend the terminals straight, solder or twist wires to it, solder the ends of the wires and use those on the injector terminals.
