Few questions about pulling an engine

This is my first automotive engine removal experience, so please bear with my silly questions... I'm pulling a 6.2 from a C10 to install (eventually) in my K5.

- How many bolts are on a 700R4 bellhousing?

- How many bolts are on the diesel torque converter?

- Is it easier to pull the engine & trans out together, then separate them on the ground? It's a 2wd 700R4, so there's no T-case to worry about...

I have never pulled that exact combo, but if I have the choice, I prefer to pull the engine and tranny together...it is hard (not impossible, just a PITA) to reach all the bellhousing bolts. The downside is that the engine and the tranny togehter can be kind of big, heavy and awkward, having buddy help makes it much much easier...

I believe there are 6 3/8" bolts for the bellhousing.
Heres a good trick for pulling them EASILY.
Get about 4' worth of extensions for your ratchet and get a 9/16" wabble socket.
Can get all the bolts out in about 5 minutes:D

theres always 6 bellhousing bolts on a GM regardless of engine, RWD anyways

yep really long extension and universal joint and short socket 9/16" will get them out, and a good light source under there too

GM converters have three bolts to the flexplate

OK, cool.
Now to decide which way to do the deed...

um...

Some diesel and HD gas torque converters have 6 bolts to the flexplate...:wink1: --I've only seen one on a 292 six..never had to look at my diesel one, hope I never do!..

I'd pull both at once and separate them on the ground...much easier!..

I've heard the diesel TC's are held with 6 bolts too. I'd separate the motor and tranny...less mess, less hassle (IMO) and it's just a ton easier to get the motor out. If the donor is not going back together I'd even consider removing the front clip, that's a lot of motor to try and get over top of the core support.

Front clip on the C10 is totally removed, just finished that on Tuesday. I gotta take a couple pics of the frame where the steering box goes - it's freakin' TRASHED.

I believe the factory manuals say motor and tranny together for cars, engine alone for trucks. Helps to take off the front wheels and set it down on the ground too.
Or, stripped to the frame, like yours, I'd pull the engine and trans just cause thats the easy way get the trans.

It's out!

Engine & trans came out together today. Stand-by for pics and narrative...

Couple small things. I'm writing a new post with pics right now...
