Few sound system questions...

Um, i wouldn't run them all of the amp. Most speakers are 4 ohm, so you would have to have an amp that is 4 channel 2 ohm stable. I forget if its in series or parallel that it would be 2 ohms, but the other way would be 8ohms and the amp would put out very little power.

Your front stage is the most important, the rear will just basically be fill. No one cares about ppl in the back seat anyways :).

If the 3.5's can take the power, amp the Door and dash speakers. Look at teh RMS ratings of teh speakers, not the max....and the RMS of the amp. If the 3.5's can't take the power, amp the door speakers and the 5x8's.

I read your original post about running 5x8's in the rear, why are you doing this? Do you already have teh 5x8's? That is kinda a wierd size, stock in a lot of mustangs and fords i think. 6x9's are a more common size, but basically, that stock rear 4x10 location sucks. I would put some 6x9's or 5x8 (if you already have them) right in the panels next to the back seat. Either scrap the rear locations, or hook them to deck power.

Only think that gets messed up doing things this way is front/rear fade, but who cares in such a small vehicle. If you hook the amp up for just front speakers, run just front Preouts to it. Might have to split it into both inputs of the amp though.

The way you are headed, it sounds like 6 channels of audio, and 8 available channels of power. I would reccomend you run the unused wires under the dash or somewhere to some speaker terminals. Then, when you want to hang out or party around the truck, you can hook up another pair of bookshelf style speakers, and throw them on the roof :)

feel free to chat with me on AIM or Gmail.

At work right now so no live chatting atm.

The 5x8's I already have and I can't see me using them for anything else so they're going in for filler. (They're also the stock size for a '98 Kia Sophia :doah::haha:)

So fronts on the amp, rears on the head, if i mount the amp in the rear this will make wiring a pain. Guess I'll go sit in the truck and stare at it for a while and see if I can find another safe spot for it, maybe the glove box.

Will make wiring a pain, but you only have to do it once. Pull front seats, console, seat belts out, flop carpet back, and install.

I gutted my burb to wire 2 amps, one under the middle seat. Not fun, but gotta love having a rockin' system in a truck that old :)

You should have room for that amp behind the side panels in the back. Much more secure, since no one will ever be able to see it. It also puts it above most of the water lines that you should be seeing. That's where I am currently planning on mounting both amps, a Sirius TV/Radio box, crossovers, and a couple other goodies.

I think you might be the first member in the history of this site, to have his first post take place in the Audio forum.:haha:

I did think about heat... but there's lots of air behind those things, they aren't air tight and I'm just running the one amp right now.

I've been around for a long time but created a new account :D Built a nice 85 chevy, later a 72 but now working on a 77 Blazer. Not much into off road since I have wheelers but more into restoration and improvements sticking closer to the factory side of things.

Bad idea due to heat.
There is far more air space to flow clean air over the heat sinks behind those panels, than there would ever be under the seat. Sorry, if you feel differently, but those amps can take it, and unless you are mounting a lot of stuff like I am planning, there is no need for any fan to move additional air into the space. When I do mine, I will have a couple of small computer fans moving some air through there, but my plan is currently including at least two amps, if not three, plus more electronics, so the increased air movement will be needed to keep everything cool.

I thought about heat, and really, you could put a small 12 volt fan in the rear speaker grill instead of a speaker to ventilate the space if you were worried. If he was running a bad ass mono amp at 1ohm, i would be worried. For a 4 channel mids/highs amp, it won't get hot enough to matter.

I can get an older sony amp for relatively cheap. It's an XM-5046. The reviews I read sound good, what say you guys?

Heat is heat. With the 1/4 panel installed there would be minimal circulation unless you compensate for that by adding holes. Just a statement, not a source for argument. If you find it works then go for it. I'm a little ways away but already planning out my interior once I get the floor coated this weekend and have considered that myself. :waytogo:

What cheap? If its under $50, buy it. If not, go get what you want for $100.

How much air the amp needs depends on alot of things. If you dont plan on running the amp at its lowest possible impedance, which is usually the case with class A/B amps (usually run 4ohm stereo), then it wont be generating all the heat its capable of, and a less than ideal mounting location will likely work fine. Its when you plan on driving an amp to its lowest possible impedance, working it to its maximum, that heat generation really starts to become a factor.

You just blew my mind... I got the amp though. Probably work on mounting it and the passenger side door panel tonight.:D

if you already mounted the stereo in the center console autozone sells a 2 way 12 volt & usb port for 13 bucks. i mounted my i pod in the center console and ran power but have not hooked it up yet. wal mart sells the aux cable 6 footer for 8 bucks.

Amp mounted, dash speakers mounted, ran the wires for the dash and the one door speaker i have installed so far, to the amp, reinstalled dash. Maybe I'll take the camera out there next time.:doah:

Got your part number captain Comp. They are Metra 82-4300.

Plastic rings, 1 inch thick, 4 recessed mounting holes, I think they come with speed clips and screws for mounting as well, though I used my own. Nothing to fancy but I don't think spacers can be.:D

Cheap as $6.15 new on amazon:

Does anyone have a diagram on how I should wire the 4 speakers to the amp? I'll pick up an amp install kit and extra input cables tomorrow hopefully.:waytogo:

I've done a few head units before, but I usually used the factory harness, I'm wiring this one up seperately so I might have a few questions on that as well.
