Ok so I just got back into a full size. Its a 87 4x4 Burb. It is FI and was having a high idle prob. Today I did a oil change, new plugs and a few vac lines. Im sure that is what was making it idle high but after I fixed everything it started idling so low that every time I stop the truck dies. Also the SES light stays on all the time. What all could that be. and how can I raise the idle? Please help.

Ok one more thing I just thought of. there was a cylinder looking thing on the intake kinda behind the TB that was unpluged and the vac line going to it was blocked off. I unblocked the vac line and pluged it back up.

What code are you getting? Your check engine light is storing it.

Not sure what the cylinder thing is you are describing, any chance you can take a pic, or at least describe it in detail, and it's location in detail? I don't know much about how the TBI motors are arranged, but it sounds like it MIGHT be the EGR solenoid?

Im not sure how to check the codes. But I did unhook the thing I told you about and blocked off the vac line and now it idles right.

It sounds like you're talking about the EGR valve. If it is stuck open it will make the truck run like crap. To check codes you just need to jump the A and B terminals on the ALDL connector which is located just beneath the dash on the driver side (the upper right terminals are what you put a jumper wire on). Once you have a jumpoer wire between those two terminals then turn the key to the ON position engine off and watch for the SES (service engine soon) light to blink. You should get a code 12 telling you the system is working properly then any other codes will follow. The codes consist of a blink then pause then blink blink for a code 12 which will happen 3 times then any other codes to follow in the same fashion.
