i need to build a new shroud for my windstar fans because the stock one is all brittle and falling apart. I want to do something like Ryoken did but I was wondering if you could use fiberglass? Would it hold up? Or should I just use some sheetmetal? Any pics and input would be great, thanks!

hmm... i would think sheetmetal would be easier, from the flex and little random abuse that offroading does, a sheetmetal one would be perfect, i saw it on powerblock, i think on muscle car? i would think just get a sheet that is the same length and height as ur radiator(minus the sides) and then add on about 2" (or how ever thick the fan is) to the top/bottom and sides, then on the corners, cut a 2" slice spliting the corners evenly in half (45*) then bend them at 90* so it looks like a big baking pan.and it should be 2" away from ur radiator and fit the size of ur radiator, o ya, then cut the circle(s) for ur fans. ill draw a picture if im a little confusing.

no picture necessary :D . the more i think about it sheetmetal is the way to go. i think if i wasnt going to be wheelin fiberglass would be ok but all that flexin and bouncing would probably destroy it

fans work fine and I would prefer to have a more custom fit. plus if i do it now if these fans ever crap out i can just get new ones then.

I have no question about the durability of my glass one... pound for pound, stronger than steel..

I had forgotten yours was made out of glass :doah:. I just re read the PM you sent me with how yours was done and I think I might try using fiberglass. Thanks for the input though. If you think it will stand up I would prefer to glass it just because of the weight saving.
