Fiberglass Visor modding.

Bought one. The underside is rough. How easy is it to put some filler on it to make a smooth surface? Also the leading lip is a little thick for me and I'd like to trim it but wonder about weakening the structure. There would be enough room behind the remaining lip to ad something to stregthen it.

So for somebody who hasn't worked with fibreglass how hard is it to work with? Suggestions on product to use?
