Filling a tapped hole

What is it in? Plate, block, all makes a big difference.
 
It is in a new Edelbrock Intake Manifold. Please don't ask how it got there it just needs to be filled and a new one drilled where the old hole was.

I am wondering if that will work with what has to be done. See I bought edelbrocks "Performer EPS with PermaStar finish" for my 1985 K5 Blazer that I am making into a off-road / show truck. I had it all in and I was putting in the last bolt in the carb and I heard a popping sound. Well that sound was the bolt breaking off in the hole. Well the spacer and carb I have had two holes so they could fit different Intakes. So I just figured I would drill and tap a new hole. So I put the spacer on and put bolts in the three other hols to help line everything up. Well I did not bolt the spacer down so it was moving all over. And by the time I was done I had a hole about a 1/16 off from where it needs to be. Now when I have the new hole drilled by someone other than me the new hole will go almost half into the hole that I drilled.
So will a bushing work?

[/ QUOTE ]sorry I didn't explain enough. the piece that has the tube coming out of the pumpkin kept on coming out, so I used the JB weld to lock it into place so there is still venting. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
 
Dude, take the manifold to qa good welder (that can weld aluminum) have it welded up the have a machine shop do the drilling and tapping if you don't feel comfy with it! /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Is it the rear carb hole? is so, can't you just widen the carb hole itself to make it fit. Also, If you still have the receipt for the intake, its amazing what stores will take back for a "it's not the right one" refund! Just make sure the person at the counter is REAL busy . /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif
 
If the hole is out of round, or if your new hole is going to take close to half of your original hole, just drill it out to the next common thread size, if it's drilled ok, but just in the wrong place, tap it and locktite in a piece of threaded stock. file it flat, center punch and drill your hole in the right place. A specialty fastener store can get you aluminum bolts to use for filling this hole, (some states use on their road signs) that would make it easier to drill with out the bit wanting to "walk" to the softer metal..

I don't think so this baby was $208.00 so I don't think buying a new manifold is in the ?.

Hello,
Yes it is the rear carb hole. If any welding has to be done I will pop the thing off and take it to the shop.
I got the damn thing online at summit so it will not work.

A new manifold is the only answer to your question. Paying a machineist to fix it will cost more than buying a new manifold.
