Finally a Dana 70
I just won this Dana 70 on ebay for $162.50. The numbers stamped on the axle tube are 603242 2. What will I have to do to it to get it to work in my 1983 Blazer? I plan on running 38x15.50x15 swampers, 16"-17" wheels and maybe a disc brake conversion, I don't have much luck with drum brakes. My tranny is a 350 turbo with a 208. Now I'll have to find a good 4.10 Dana 60 somewhere cheap!

1978 Dodge Dually rear axle with factory power-lok posi, 35 splines and 4.10 gears!!!

I picked this dually rear axle up for a rock crawler project that I was gong to build, but other things have come down the pipe. I was going to run hummer wheels and match my dually front 60. The brakes are in good shape, but I was going to trash them and run discs anyways.
This is ready to bolt into any Dodge, Chevy, Ford, or custom buggy/trail rig
I can ship the whole axle, at buyers expense, or I can pull the power-lok with or without gears and ship them.

Well, at the least it's gonna be wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide since it's off a dually, so you'll hafta run Hummer rims in back and a DRW D60 in front or spacers, or put up with your rear wheels being wider than the front.

Spring perches and shock mounts will need to be re-welded; the driveshaft may be the wrong length and the U-joint will prolly need to be changed.

Well the D70 measurment from backing plate to backing plate is 52.5", the measurment on the stock 12 bolt is 56".

How is that too wide?

You need to measure the distance between the 2 wheel mounting surfaces. Becuase of backing plate offsets and such you really can't tell a whole lot from that measurement.

If it's too wide are H1 rims the only thing I can run? I was wanting to run 15" wide Swamper's for stability after I lift it a few more inch's. Now with a wide axle I realize stability isn't a problem but I'm into functionality as well as looks and to me H1 wheels look like s#!t. I can get Eagle Alloys at cost plus 10% as well as the Swamper's.

Keep in mind that not all dually axle housings are wide . Cab Chassis have different axle width options . Some are wide like a fleet side bed truck will have and some are very narrow to accomidate certain bed boxes that the aftermarket offers. Do you know what that housing came off of ?

Well dmanblazer you asked the very question I was going to ask so I hope you don't mind if I tag along. Except I scored my D70 for free and I would like to put it under my 87'. Mine came off a 79' box van. I haven't picked it up yet cause I wanted to see if it was worth it but I think I will. Keep the tips coming!!!

Well like I stated in the beginning of this thread I'm going to add a disk brake conversion and maybe some of those 7" long spring perches they help some what on axle wrap.

Now for the next step do Dodge and Chevy share the same bolt pattern, and what vehicle do I need too get my D60 from to match my rear end?

Yes the bolt pattern is the same and it is 8 on 6.5" .
Any GM front SRW D60 from 1977 to 1991 will work as will most any Dodge front SRW D60 from mid seventy's up to 1993 - the Dodge housing has slight dimension differences but nothing that can't be delt with. There are lots of threads on putting Dodge D60's in GM solid axle trucks so the search feature will provide more reading than you will ever have time for on the subject.

HTH's Tom

Carefull with those long ars perches. When you stuff a tire you are creating a serious bind right there on the leaf spring. Thats why you typically see perches rounded on the edges and a tad shorter then the width of the U bolts.
