Started on it like 6 months ago...lol

Anyways, I just took a stock cover and plated the bottom half with 1/4" plate. Blened it all in for the smooth look. I had to weld a 1/4" ring to the back side of the cover because the insane amount of heat that it took to fill in some of the spots with weld matertial to smooth it out, warped the stock cover sooo bad that it woulda taken an entire tube of rtv to seal it up. haha! The 1/4" ring regained me my gasket surface so all is good. The next one will get the 1/4" ring on the outside first. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I did the roughing in by using a torch to heat the steel till it was red hot, the hammered it into the rough shape of the cover. There's probably 10 individual pieces of flat bar in there. Tacked it all on, welded up the gaps and sanded all that smooth. Then went over the entire thing lookin for low spots and spots that just didn't look "right" and filled those spots with weld material. It was alot of work, very time consuming. Fill and sand, fill and sand. Kinda like using bondo I guess, but with a MIG welder and a flap disc on a 4" grinder. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif

Pimp!

Jest juan kwestion....................................

y?

I see half a strong diffy cover when you could buy or make a whole diffy cover out of 1/4".

Nice welds though, it's always great to see another who takes pride! /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Well, if ya think about it, whats the point of beefing the whole thing? If I hit a rock big enough to get past the top half of the cover, I took the waaaaaaaaay wrong line. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

And thanks for the compliments on the wleds....been welding since 17years old for a living, so it's second nautre now. /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif

I petitioned my school to pay for my 1/4" plate steel certification.... never did take that cert. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

But my father and uncle talked me out of it for a living. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif
