Finally got one!

With your tailgate try opening it from the back of the truck and push in on the tailgate as you pull the handle up, works on most. Your gonna love the LMC catalog. Definitely get the spacer at least and drop in a k&n and make sure your cold air tube is hooked up too.

When you get the panel off have a good look at the latch mechanism inside the gate. You'll see a rod from the latch. It's round at the end, has a step to catch the mechanism, and then it has a flat spot in the rod. That rod always bends and fatigues right where the flat part meets the round part. The more it bends the harder it gets to open the gate.

I ended up taking the whole latch mechanism out, welded up the rod and re-installed it. It works like a charm now.

To get the gate itself open pull the two rods you see towards the center of the tailgate.

Thanks guys!!

Yeah the latch mechanism is definitely going to be my first order of business. It seems like a fairly simple fix so I'll just get it out of the way so the tailgate is easily useable.

The LMC catalog looks awesome! I really can't wait until it comes in the mail so I can check out all of the parts. I have a feeling I know where a lot of my spare cash (as if I had any) will be going haha

Bad news (most likely)

Well, it sucks that I'm saying this, but there's a good possibility that I'm not getting the Blazer I won off of ebay after all.

Basically, when my grandmother passed away, she left my sister and I each a sum of money. My portion of the money is what was to pay for the Blazer. When she passed, my Dad gave the money to my uncle and explicitly told him to put it in a SEPARATE account so that it would not be spent and would accumulate some interest over time. This was about 5 years ago and nothing was ever mentioned of it, so we just assumed that all was well.

So, this past week, I went to email my uncle telling him that I needed the money to pay for the Blazer. He wrote back to my Dad saying that he had no clue what I was talking about. So they exchanged emails, and it turns out that my uncle, who is an alcoholic like the rest of my family, was probably drunk when my Dad told him what to do with the money, and he just stuck it all in one account that my Dad has been using to pay bills and stuff since he's out of work. So basically, my Dad unknowingly spent the money that was supposed to go to my Blazer, and we only found out a couple of days ago. My Dad is still out of work, so whatever money is left in that account should go towards his bills an stuff, so it's not worth making him even more in debt just so I can get my truck, even if it was my money. Him keeping his house is way more important.

We are all furious because it puts me in a bad situation with the seller, who I already sent a deposit to, and I'm also really bummed out that I probably can't get the truck now. All because my uncle screwed up big time.

I just wanted to vent and get that out there. It's a lot more detailed as far as everything leading up to this but I just thought I'd share it with people. So I'll keep everyone posted but as of now, a K5 might not be in my immediate future :(

Sorry to hear it man, hopefully you can get something worked out. I know how it can be dealing with family like that...perhaps your uncle could help you out?

thanks man, I hope something can be worked out. I wanted him to maybe help out, but the problem is that he, along with all of my uncles, aside from being alcoholics, are also big-time gamblers, so they've blown most of their money on horse races and football games and stuff so they can't help. This uncle in particular is also quite cheap according to my Dad lol
