I'm sure this thread has been asked or referenced before, but I was wondering where I can find a body tub for a 78 blazer (or similar) thats in decent shape, but virtually rust free. I live in the midwest so finding a low rust or rust free body around here is near impossible. Are there maybe some places on the internet or maybe some place that deals exclusively with southern truck bodies? Thanks.

Full Fiberglass!

Yeah, rust is an issue. That was my primary concern. The thing with your 78 is the tub is the same going up to 91, and the later ones would definitly be more advantagous, as they used more and more painted/galvinized/protected steel in the later years.

There's a couple places here in MI that carry K5 tubs, buy they want arms and legs for them as they've just transported them from someplace south themselves. THere's probably similiar places in WI.

Thanks for the ideas (especially the road trip one!) How do I get my hands on a fiberglass tub? Is there a company that sells them? Do you have names or addresses of the places that carry the tubs in MI? Thanks (I'm new to the whole jimmy/K5 rebuild world so I appreciate your patience)

fiberglass bodies are $$$!
Come out west to Arizona. You can go wheelin while you're here and score a sweet tub and frame for less than 500 bucks easily. Sometimes you can even get a running rig for that much.

Too bad your really far away from me, i've got a rust free '84 tub with the windshield frame cut out of it i'd give ya.

where you located in wisconsin? Im thinking about selling my 79 2wd blazer. My brothers friend is interested, but if he passes on it, maybe we could work something out? actually its originally from arizona. no rust on/in the tub. shoot me a pm

I know of two, I can only remember ones name. I'll be driving by the other in a few days, I'll catch the name again. I checked with both these places in the late 90's, they both wanted like $1500-2000 for a rust free K5 tub though.

If I were doing a metal tub, I'd would get a good reliable safe trailer and make a trip somewhere south myself. Much more choices, probably still a littler cheaper in the long run, K5 tubs can be had in AZ and southern states for $1000 or less, add your time and gas, comes out the same perhaps. Road trips can be alot of fun too if you do them right!

Southern Truck 784 N Van Dyke Rd, Imlay City, MI (810) 724-2357

The company I bought my fiberglass k5 tub from is US Body Source in Florida. The price has skyrocketed since I bought though, I don't think I'd do the glass at their current price, like $7500. When I bought the tub, clip and misc pieces (wheel wells, trans hump.) it was $5500 for everything. Now they want $7500 just for the tub.

I would guess you could score a tub in az for around free through $200. I have acutally cut up at least 2 tubs that were in great shape because I couldn't find someone who wanted them.:hack: :yikes:
