Anyone else have problems finding parts, like axles, in their area?

I've been to all the salvage yards I know of around here, trying to pick up a D60, or even an 8-lug 10 bolt, and a 14 bolt rear, and there's not a thing I can find anywhere.

Just curious as to where some of you guys who don't live in the graveyard of good parts that is the west find axles, springs, and the like.

Kinda have the same problem... or when i do find them they are asking 3x the normal price or something stupid like that

but then again i havent been looking really hard since funds are low

No doubt!

I live in a VERY urban area and pretty much anything older than 15 years is history. And that's being generous. Most places don't have anything older than 10 years.

Last year I went to and called probably 15 yards for a tailgate. A tailgate to a pickup body style that spanned from 73 to 87. Not a one to be found.

:screwy:

I'd really like to upgrade my axles to something decent (and something with a bit better gearing and with lockers) so I can *safely* run 35s or 37s around here without worrying about breaking anything.

Just really bugs me to have a lifted truck with open axles, but there's NOTHING around here that I can find to use.

Been looking myself bone dry here too.I see you are from wv also I live in mineral wells wv were about are you???

Martinsburg, in the eastern panhandle. I think there are about a grand total of 6 or 7 lifted trucks around here :o that's it.

There is quite of few around here I have seen some trailer queens too. chrome shocks, just jacked up wayyyy to high:rolleyes:

Keep your eyes on the classifieds here and on other boards. Watch Craigslist and Ebay too. I find swap meets can be ok.

Drive your rigs around town a lot too, they catch attention and people will seek you out. I constantly get business cards, notes and people 'waiting' for me to come back to the truck to tell me about something for sale.

Seems like all of the axles for sale on here are either midwest or California. :doah: Craigslist doesn't have too much good listed on it for around here, mostly ricer stuff, it seems.

Truck pulls daily driver duties, but the majority of big 4x4s around here are F-250 gassers with monster lift and tires that don't see gravel roads, much less trails or mud. Think there might be 2-3 Jeeps, a big Bronco, and maybe 3-4 K10/20s around here that actually get mud baths, and most of the time those guys look the other way if I pass them on the road.

I live in the redneck state of the country, just not the redneck area of that state

What kind of axles are you looking for?? I just got an HP60 out of an 80s truck. Buddy has a GM 60 out of an 88 crew, just sitting collecting dust. Wif's mother lives in Wheeling, will unfortunately be making a trip there after the year, maybe be able to work something out.....

Keep your eyes open on the side of the road. You never know what ou might drive by that people will sell if you just ask.

Really just anything decently priced that'll be stronger than the stock 10 bolts. Friend of mine has 4 12 bolt rears, but they're all from the coil spring/truck arm '60s trucks and would take more trouble to get to work than it'd be worth.

The easier to bolt in, the better, and if it's already locked, even better yet.

take a vacation to New York state. I was just up there and it seems like every fourth house you pass has an old 4wd chevy parked in the weeds. In my area if you see a dual wheel truck its 2wd. every single truck up there had a 60 under the front.

I need a car hauler, some time off of work and a big wad of cash.

junkyards in my area have been picked clean for 8 lug parts. I am lucky to find a 4wd older chevy anything. scrap brings more money then letting it sit and hope some kid wants to buy an axle.

wanna feel depressed? imagine how many trucks with 60's have been wrecked and throw in the crusher for scrap weight. when the trucks were new there was no reason to hold onto a wrecked one. just go down to the dealership and buy another. no reason to hang on to the axles.:doah::(

yeah they are litteraly all over the place. If I can get a GM cheap I do, but mostly look for the Fords, they bring more money. Just found another HP60 from a 79 for $350, that's the whole truck.....

If you can find anything like a matched 10 bolt 8-lug and a 14 bolt with a locker, let me know...might be able to work something out and meet you around Morgantown or where ever up there.

How many sets do you want?? Allthough they won't have a locker, inless the factory G80, which is better than the1/2 and 3/4 ton ones....

Yep, know the feeling. There's about nothing up here in the yards, people tend to think the junk they have is gold, and the junk for sale is usually just that...junk.

There's good stuff to be found occasionally but it disappears so fast you can't blink if you want it.

Needed a new passenger side pickup seat belt last spring after Lucy the sharp toothed dog had her way with it...called every single yard in the phone book and then only managed to find a great shape, correct color one after one of the last places I called mentioned a place one county over by the lake. Paid to much but I got it and it looks like it's the original.
