Finished my "Stinger" tire carrier today! "pics" of course!

I've always liked that stinger design. I like how you incorporated the recovery stackles.

I had thought about doing the same style. I was going to get greasable bushings from ORD, and you can get the mounting tabs from someone like DIY4x.

Now, painted and 35 inch BFG mounted. Done for now................

I'll get some measurements and pic of it lowered after the paint gets good and dry................tomorrow
I hope.

i like it a lot! definitely thinkin about this when the time comes...my only question is, do you think itll get old lowering and raising that thing any time you need to get to the bed?

my 39.5 TSLs on steel rims are about 125 pounds a pop. Lifting one 5' in the air by myself is a reciepe for a hernia or something. lol!

My thoughts exactly. 39.5" boggers on steelies with 1/4" beadlock rings add up to 160 lb per corner. This is a great way to keep from killing yourself.

Dontoe, that thing looks good! I love the look of a rear stinger. :pimp:

That looks great! I have been thinking about something like that on the burb, but I don't know about adding more length to an already very loooong vehicle. One question, is it difficult to hold the carrier in place while you put the pin in to hold it in place?

Naw, that's about the balance point. I hold it with my head and use both hands to put the pin in.

I like the paint choice! :thumb:

After messing with a swing away carrier for over a year, I would definitely recommend this style. If you've got a big tire, this is definitely safer. Plenty of stories on Pirate about snapped spindles on the swing-away style. You've gotta raise the tire so high to keep it from hitting on steep climbs.

I thought I had mine high enough, but I actually broke the tire off the carrier at Blazer Bash last year. It kept hitting on the steep climbs.

Nice job Dontoe!

Looks great, that will be one of my next projects. I like it cause I'm not real big or tall. Much easier to load the tire on it and swing it up.

The basic measurements I gave the machine shop to bend the steel, and machine the hinges.
