I am wondering who makes the finned aluminum wheels everyone used to put on their trucks a long time ago. I have been looking for some and can't find anything about them. They have the machined look.

Also, I had a flat tire this past weekend where my valve stem almost broke completely off. Has anyone else ever had this? Both my front hubs where really hot when I pulled over. Could the mixture of heat and age ruin them?

Are you talking about turbine wheels, like on the A-Team van? Something like this?

western wheel was the main maker of the rims. ebay has them from time to time. try hurricane or turbine for the search words.

rubber valve steams can wear out faster from to much rim heat. for h/d dump trucks / semi trucks / trash trucks thay have special rubber seals for the valve steams for the extra heat thay make when city driving using the brakes all the time.

but sounds like you need to check your wheel bearings and grease in the hubs. possible to tight or lack of grease and or worn out grease.

and there was a big recall on bad vale steams here a few months ago from falling apart. could of been them.

yeah wheels like that, only I think they have more fins closer together is what I am used to see.

It's been pretty hot lately and I was driving down the highway. I never really grab the hub after I drive it but since I had a flat tire I did and both front were really hot. I thought about repacking the bearings.

I usually use a heavy duty bearing grease that we use at our shop. Maybe I ought to try some of the lucas grease.

What does everyone else use in their bearings that seems to hold up?

im a huge fan of mobil 1 products. i used mobil 1 grease in my bearings, look for high temp handling ability, and strong water resistance. many suggest marine grease, but ive had my rig pretty wet, and have never had a problem with my hubs using the mobil 1 stuff. a little pricy, but like i said, ive never had a problem, so the few bucks extra i spent to me is worth it.

i found these in the local paper classifieds.....75.00.......they are western wheel, polished out side of the finns, just not too clean.
