*****IMPORTANT SAFETY REMINDER*****
Please do NOT set your truck on fire while attempting to weld the firewall and floors back together!
Only damage is a bit of split loom wire wrap, on old T shirt rag and some old ratty washer pump hose, and the original washer bottle got melted too. Shame…
I think I scorched my 3 lower fingers LH thinking I could just crush the firewall out with my hand. Dont do that. It hurts. Ended up using a bottle of Gatorade and bottle of water.
I’m going on a little hunt now looking for anything else that could burn in the general vicinity. Grabbing my fire extinguisher from the back of the shop too.
**** this!

It happens
I was freaking out about using the death wheel next to the gas tank. Nothing happened so I did it again. Still here :dunno:

I can identify. I need to weld a patch in my floor in the area somewhat over the gas filler neck. :yikes:

Had a similar experience on my old 4Runner. It’s amazing how fast the flames can spread. It’s definitely a humbling experience for sure.

I had to cut a hole above the fuel tank and lines with the spinning wheel of death.. Was very careful w/ that one. 1/2" or less gap there.

Just dragged a 74 G30 van out of a field. As soon as it primed the fuel pump, I noticed a chewed #2 plug wire. Moments later, the chewed fuel line sprayed onto the wire. Holy shit did it happen fast. I usually have an extinguisher handy. Quick bast of the hose and all good. Took a couple beers before I quit shaking.

We all get complacent and sometimes it takes a reminder of why we always need to be prepared for when shit happens.

Take time to plan for things to go just right but be prepared for if things go wrong is a good shop/garage logo to live and operate by.

Glad it was a small enough situation to only get ya a little shook up and not worse!

It's kinda funny. My fire extinguisher guy at work gave me two dozen small units. I forced em on all my car buddies for their rigs. Had my extra at the shop and not in the van like it should have. It's a great reminder.

Me too. Is there a good place to get good extinguishers?

Mine are all Kidde units that were in a recall years back. My fire specialist went through each one and certified. He said that the market was flooded with em and gave me all of them for free. Try a local fire company.
