I'm getting ready to tear out my old dash and install DIY4x's dash. I figure while I'm in the I should replace the insulation since most of it's gone and my truck feels like a convection oven in the summer. I've been looking at LMC and Eastwood. LMC has the stock cardboard/insulation set-up and then also a insulation/foil type. Eastwood advertises Dynamat and their own knockoff, after reading reviews it seems like in hotter areas of the country it melts!! What have you guys done? I'm mainly interested in heat control but a little sound deadening would be a bonus!!

Was thinking about this recently as well.

Wonder how something like Steiner's velvet shield welding blanket would hold up.

That looks like what I need to go with. The dynomat stuff scares me, in this arizona sun I scared I'll get in my truck to find a pool of tar on the floor

The link I posted has tar like stuff on one side and foil on the other. I am going to heat it before installing to make sure that is doesn't run.

Ahhhh I am on my phone so I couldn't view the picture very well, it looked like the fluffy stuff. Let me know about the heat test, in the summer it can easily hit 120 with the doors closed. And I'm sure it's not ice cold when the engines running

The picture only shows the foil, not the tar.

I didn't want the tar, but I have it and will give it a try assuming that it passes the heat test :D

I'm tired of swamp ass every time I want to use the blazer in 80+ heat. I will post up after I heat it and let you know if the tar stuff runs. I'm thinking that it will be ok since Summit says its rated to 400F.

Cheep, excelent heat reducer, no tar.
This
I tried it on the floor pans 1st. you could feel the temp difference (holding your hand at knee height) between the pan and the center hump.

I've looked at lizard skin and it is supposed to be a great heat barrier, but I'm looking for something that is dual purpose sound and heat.

Disregard, after reading a little more they have two products one for heat and one for sound  According to the instructions you apply sound control and then the ceramic heat barrier over that. I'm gonna price it out and see what it looks like for both

Thanks for the update, I'm close to ordering. I'm also looking at dynoliner, it a lot thicker 1/2"

The knockoff Eastwood stuff is garbage. If you aren't convinced, just read the reviews on their own website! Get Dynamat and be done with it. EBay and Amazon will have the best deals on it. Fat Mat and Raamat are also good products.

I used Dynamat and Raamat foam insulation on my firewall and its definitely quieter than the factory firewall pad at a 1/4 of the thickness and it won't act as a sponge if you swamp your truck. :deal:

Yeah I ordered the 1/2" Dynaliner foam type insulation. I just don't get an easy feeling thinking about how hot it gets here coupled with engine heat.

I wasn't planning to buy but I couldn't pass it up.

I've used a bunch of Fatmat Rattle Trap from Amazon. I even have it on the engine side of the firewall. no melting, and good sound reduction, but you have to be careful not to spray it too hard with the car wash nozzle or it will start to peel off.
