So, my '87 K is nearly ready to move again. The rear floor is about to be finished, and as the cancerous old floor was lifted, there's one last piece of floor/beam that's bad.

First, the frame is great.

Second, it looks like this piece goes from side to side, quarter to quarter just behind the doors, and is at the level to be just under the floor as it dips down to the front of the cab.

The floor appears to be tacked to it both on top, the rear floor level, and the front, the wall that drops down to the front cab floor.

I have 1x3 steel that I planned on using to fit in that spot to attach things to, and using L-Brackets to attach that piece to the brackets that look like they curl under and attache to the frame there.

Is this a good idea? Something heavier? I can't find any such piece name anyway; I have no clue what it's called. Help, anyone?

Thank you in advance.

I've been contemplating re-doing the entire floor in my crewcab...:whistle:Flame suit on.
But, nothing really to add, except that the .060 steel down there now is probably OK.

Based on your description I think you're talking about the front cross sill. Mine was wasted in my 72. Pretty common problem. The replacement I bought was 18 gauge if that helps. Not sure what the differences in first gen stuff and yours is but I bet it's not all that big of a change. Hope that helps.

I used some 3x4 to repair that part. The seat bolts to it also so don't skimp.

This is just in front of where the seats bolt to, so I don't think it's exactly the same place, though where it is suggests that it should be stout. The 1/2 inch-thick 8 footer I have should be OK...and tissue paper is better than what's there now.
