First build thread of the decade - '83 K10

I wasn't happy with the MOO shockmounts.

What company is this? I am sure as soon as i post this i will remember.

Nice looking build!

It's Missouri Offroad Outfitters - they went out of business several years ago. I bought a secondhand new setup off someone on here a while back and had it sitting around.

After seeing what goes into inboarding and the geometry issue, I'm going to just build my own setup next time. This probably wouldn't be an option for those without a welder, however - the kits are great for bolt-on.

Looks good.

Question thoug, your calipers on your 14bff disk conversion are in the front of the axle. I am not sure if I am confused but arent they supposed to be in the back of the axle. I need to know befor I install my conversion.

It doesn't matter at all as long as the bleeder screws are on the top of the caliper.

I think mine might actually be mounted opposite the side of their original design. I intentionally put mine in front to keep them a bit more protected - but that's probably splitting hairs...

I skipped a bunch of pics documenting mundane steps along this build (and I was on a mission and just didn't do it...). I set toe-in last night with a laser reference.

First I found the centerline of the wheel with a plumbob based on the hub center.

Then I marked fore and aft the radius of the tire.

Then I used a square to get the tire boundaries marked on the same plane as the brake disc.

I have a mag-mount laser that I slapped on the brake disc - it projects a line on the floor that is planar with the brake disc. I marked where these cross the tire radius lines (i.e.: that would be the front and back of the tires are). Measuring for toe-in is then a cinch - I set it at 1/16"

If you refer to an earlier post, I was going to have sever interference issues with the crossover/histeer arms and the turbo crossover pipe - this mandates a custom-bent arrangement to fix. The Banks pipes are mandrel bent, and I didn't really want to transition to crush-bent pipe.

I need something to get by until I can get the truck to a mandrel shop over the mountains, so I got a stainless flexpipe :doah:and wrapped it with insulation. I then passed under the motor mount / over the crossmember / between the oilpan and frame. It was tiiiiiiggght! This should work until I get to the mandrel shop - then we'll see how good those guys are :D

In the end there's plenty of clearing for the steering :waytogo:

I finally pulled out of the garage at 10pm last night...and of course headed straight for the RTI ramp and a date with a Sawzall for some tender fender trimming :saweet:

It now scores a 635 on a 30-degree ramp with fully aired tires.

I went back in the morning and redid it in the daylight :D

Today I took it out for a little shakedown run - I don't have any great pics as I was driving. Some SoCal CK5'ers were meeting up in the Jawbone area, so me, bhays, and another friend met up with them this morning and went up Last Chance Canyon (funny thing is, they were all driving J**ps :screwy: ).

The truck did great, and I'm very happy with it overall. The suspension is awesome for a leaf-sprung 4" lift. The drivetrain is fantastic as well - it'll cruise jsut fine at 65mph or get around just fine in the rocks and sand. This is not the final chapter, however, and I'll continue to add to this thread over time as things progress...in the meantime, my wife has decided now that the truck is rolling the home improvement projects will start up again :doah:

Major Future Plans:
4L80E + Compushift controller (current BTO 700R4 will go in my next project)
6.5L Optimizer with A-Team Turbo (current 6.2/Banks will go in my next project)
Custom bumpers
Rhinolining
Paint
Interior Work

Here's a couple pics from the shakedown run up Last Chance Canyon...no great pics but it's what I got...

Oh - and everything couldn't go perfect, so my fan clutch decided to crap out on me. Duct Tape (via El Martillo) to the rescue!

Here's a few more, including the fan clutch fixing crew :D

I believe throttleissues' wife took these.

Thanks, y5mgisi. I wanted the truck to be really capable but not crazy - I LOVE the shortbed look (I suppose I should change my username) and didn't want to mess with it too bad. It's going to be used as a DD, hunting/fishing/expedition, fun rig that I hope is dead-nuts reliable in the end and looks good in the mall parking lot. I'm saving the more radical stuff for a diesel Blazer I've got sitting...

I'm actually thinking about a stock chrome wraparound (non-step) bumper for the rear, and then just a receiver hitch tucked up tight. I could then punch some recovery points or towhooks out the front in a subtle way and I think it'd look really good.

Here's a couple more shots from the de-flowering run (again from throttleissues wife).

Cool truck and I think a cucv front bumper with the tow points and grill gaurd would look killer on there:D

I looked but couldn't find your tire size or gear ratio, what are they?

It's got 4.10 gears and 35" tires on it. That puts it at 1800 RPM @ 65MPH - it cruises very nicely on the highway and has plenty of grunt (for me) down low.

The fender trimming was minimal as you can see in the pics and it doesn't rub at all.

It's probably axle overkill for 35's...but I won't worry about breaking them.
