Does anyone know of an aftermarket cage for the first gens? I would prefer a kit that I have to weld myself, so I can tweak it to how I want.

Maybe someone makes one for a full size bronco that I can adapt?

Pics are always appreciated :waytogo:

Thanks octane, but I only want a cage over the driver, not a full "family" cage. I have seen the S&W cages, and was wondering if anyone has any experience?

Zimmer bought a S&W for his 77 and if I remember correctly he stated that it was not a good purchase. I think that Eric and him ended up cutting it apart for it to work out.

Granted, this was not a 1st gen though.

I'll ask here since its kinda along the same lines. Yesterday I was at the junkyard and saw a 1st gen blazer with a 4 point roll bar in it. I don't know what an original one looks like so I have no idea if it was or not, but it seemed to fit pretty well.
anyway, I can pick it up for $50 if I want it. worth having? if it's little more than decoration then I'm not interested, but if it's better than nothing, I might pick it up.
thoughts?

Do you remember if it was bolted to the floor or frame? And how thick was it? Last thing you want is something thats is going to pin someone down in a rollover.

didn't look it over close, but it was not bolted to the frame, I'm sure. unless there were tie-ins under the truck, but I didn't look.
as far as how thick... 2" maybe 2 1/2". again, didn't look at it closely.

The cage I have is out of Chefbears old Jimmy. It started as an s&w cage and was added onto from there. He said he was not impressed with it and it was just a really overpriced way of buying some bent tubes. I suggest buying a bender, you can get a manual post mounted one for fairly cheap and with some simple math it is not hard to bend the tube.
