Hey guys, just at picked up a ‘90 V10. The tailgate is looking like more trouble than it is worth and I’ll most likely run a soft top anyway. Live in SoCal, so weather isn’t a concern.

Question: is there a truck tailgate that I could swap out?

I’m going to paint her eventually and already need to replace the driver’s side door and fender.

There are a few writeups about the truck tailgate swap on here.
Not sure but I believe @Blue85 did one of them. Iirc anyway.

i run one on my K5.. as said, just get the hardware with it...

I know it seams like a lot of trouble. My power tailgate was fairly solid but the internals were trashed. Glass was good though. It took about 3 hours and roughly $800 with LMC to get it back to working like it should. All I have left to do is rewire it all. I will be adding a "Hot Wire" kit to the tail gate as well.

I'll probably pickup a truck tailgate and take my time fixing the original. Glass is good and the tailgate is in decent shape, but there are parts missing and the geometry seems off. You-pull-it lots around here are decidedly lacking donor vehicles for some of the parts LMC doesn't have.

What is a "Hot Wire" kit?

The hot wire kit provides true 12v power to the window vs going going through the switches and all.
I wish I had videoed the rebuild.

I'm intrigued. My K10 came with two batteries. One was dead, so I just took it out. I wonder if that isn't what it was there for. Good news is that I have a driver's side battery tray ready to roll.

I am not sure about that one. I know that the power for the front windows and rear window runs through the switches. Leading to some loss in voltage. The Hot wire kits uses relays so that the window switches activates the relay and send a true 12v to the window motors.
