Hey gents first post for my first blazer. I bought an 87 k5 Blazer for my wife. Its got a 350 in it. Runs and idles good, new AC, new suspension, and power steering pump. Like I said everything seems solid but it has over 200,000 miles on her. This will be my first project truck and my first older automobile. What should I do first bringing it home, general maintenance wise, to start me off. Thanks for the help and looking forward to looking through this forum.

Pretty easy. Change all the fluids. Diffs, t-case, trans/filter, engine oil/filter. Check plugs and ignition wires for condition. Replace if needed. Fuel filter should be changed and air filter based on condition.

This will give you a new starting baseline. Fluid conditions will give a decent picture of the trucks state of health so to speak. If the fluids were topped off and fairly clean and free of metal flake/debris, good. Look at the gear sets with the covers off the diffs. Look at the wear pattern. Trans pan have a pile of silver paste in the pan? Any fluids low? Signs of leaks?

I'd also look over the condition of the brakes, steering and suspension. Make sure everything is safe. Repair as required.

Since its your first, if you don't know, ask. Post pics if you aren't sure. Guys will help.

Congrats on the project, hope to see more of it.

Do what ZooMad said. Then DRIVE IT. That's the only way you will know what needs to be done next, if anything needs to be done. Enjoy it, and welcome to CK5

I'd make sure all the steel brake lines & rubber hoses are in good condition before driving it...and the steel & rubber transmission cooler and fuel lines also..

Nice rig! Looks like mine. As everyone has mentioned, all the fluids and filters is a good idea anytime you buy a used car. Check the frame around the steering box and make sure you torque down the steering box mounting bolts and tie rod ends. Check the rear driveshaft, you will probably need new U joints. Enjoy!
