I recently aquired one of my dream trucks, and upon removing carpet to look for any rust repairs that may be lurking, I’ve come across some kind of sound deadening mats with with a shiny aluminum appearance on the top of them. I’m only asking if someone can confirm if those are factory or not. It’s a 1989 k5 blazer. Thanks to everyone who can provide some feedback

Welcome!

The foil backed stuff is definitely not factory. At most you would typically find jute under the carpet and maybe some thick tar like sections of sound deadening that would be just on the front floor sections in a couple of spots.

Thank you for your help. I noticed it looked a little off. Hopefully it’s not there to hide rust.

Welcome to CK5 @GorillaGlue

Yes someone has done you a solid provided they fixed any bad spots, before laying the sound mat. That factory jute hold moisture and help speed up the rusting process.
I did mine a couple years ago, helps with the road noise and exhaust heat in the floor boards.20210418_184444_Film1.jpg
